Xiaomi taps Beijing as its EV headquarters alongside a new 300,000 vehicle-per-year factory

Xiaomi Automotive recently signed a contract with a committee from the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area to establish its entire automotive business in the suburb of Yizhuang. With a goal to put its first EV on roads in 2024, Xiaomi will establish its headquarters, R&D, and manufacturing on the site that will be constructed in two phases.

Silent Yachts launches solar catamaran with kite wing sail and 100 mile daily range from the sun

Solar boat engineer and designer Silent Yachts has shared new details of the SILENT-60, a 60′ catamaran with 42 solar panels and two electric propelled motors backed by 286 kWh of battery capacity. While Silent Yachts’ solar-powered vessels are all unique, the SILENT-60 will also be fitted with a 9-13 square meter kite wing, generating additional clean power to pull the yacht.

Rimac Group begins construction on €200M global headquarters in Croatia

Electric hypercar manufacturer Rimac Automobili has officially begun erecting its new €200 million ($224 million) headquarters in Zagreb, Croatia, after breaking ground months ago. According to Rimac Group, the state-of-the-art R&D and production facilities will combine to make the campus one of the largest in Europe when it’s completed in 2023.

IONITY and Blackrock investing €700 million to add 5,500 new fast chargers across Europe

Rolls Royce proclaims ‘Spirit of Innovation’ e-plane fastest electric vehicle in the world at 387 mph

Rolls-Royce Holdings has publicly claimed it believes its Spirit of Innovation all-electric plane is the fastest electric vehicle in the world, following three new speed records. The US House of Representatives passed the $1.9 trillion “Build Back Better” legislation early this morning, following a lengthy session that included a record-setting speech from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. Faraday Future delays SEC filings amid internal review of short seller allegations

Sibros to provide OTA connected vehicle systems for the Lightyear One SEV

AMPLY Power is reusing shipping containers as semi-permanent chargers for commercial EVs

AMPLY Power has introduced INRUSH, a containerized EV charging infrastructure system that can be set up in about half the time as traditional methods. GM Defense is planning a military prototype based off the GMC Hummer EV

General Motors recently shared that it is speaking with the US military about building an electric Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (eLRV) prototype based off the GMC Hummer EV. The eLRV prototype planned for 2022 will be developed by GM Defense as a modified version of the Hummer EV, to fit US Army specifications. The move completes the circle started when the original Humvee was adapted from from a military personnel transporter to civilian gas guzzler at the end of last century.

Xos’ modular Lyra battery series can give commercial EVs up to 500 miles of range

Equipmake and Beulas partner with London’s largest bus operator to provide double decker electric buses

Coach bus and electric powertrain manufacturers Equipmake and Beulas have added a new member to their team to deliver all-electric double decker buses. The companies recently announced that Go-Ahead London, the largest bus operator in the capital, has joined as a partner. Go-Ahead London will begin in-service trials of the Jewel E electric buses on London streets beginning early next year.

Kandi America launches K32 off-road EV starting under $28k

Kandi America has introduced a new off-road, all-wheel-drive EV model in the US, set to deliver in Q1of 2022. While the K32 EV may resemble a pickup truck at first glance, Kandi America classifies it as a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), given its smaller battery and power rating compared to other passenger EVs. The K32 will come in two variations starting at $27,700, possibly less with federal and state tax incentives considered.
