Following a call overseas today, commercial EV startup Arrival shared its Q1 financial report and offered updates to investors outlining its progress in bringing its electric Bus and Van into full-fledged production in the UK and US.

During a presentation at WasteExpo 2022 in Las Vegas, XL Fleet unveiled its all-electric pre-series powertrain on a Quantum garbage truck as part of collaboration with Curbtender, Inc. This pre-series vehicle is the first toward production models the companies plan to build in 2022. 

Lightning eMotors announced a partnership with Perrone Robotics to integrate Level 2 and Level 4 autonomous capabilities into its medium-duty electric fleet vehicles. By utilizing Perrone’s TONY retrofit autonomy kit, Lightning eMotors can now offer Class 3-7 commercial EVs that can self-drive in a range of scenarios.

A recent report states that global battery conglomerate CATL is in the final stages of vetting potential sites to bring EV battery production to the US. The move would mark the company’s first entry into the second largest automotive market in the world, and the new facilities would provide cells to BMW AG and Ford Motor Company for their EV production stateside.

American EV automaker Lucid Motors shared its Q1 numbers for 2022, today reporting nearly $58 million in revenue despite a slow uptick of deliveries. Additionally, Lucid announced substantial price increases to multiple trims of its Air sedan for any new reservations beginning June 1.

Nikola Corporation shared its Q1 results for 2022 and things are looking up. In addition to a small but noteworthy gross profit, the previously ill-famed commercial EV manufacturer began delivering some BEVs and has purchase orders (POs) or letters of intent (LOIs) for hundreds more. Nikola also continues to make strides in expanding its Arizona manufacturing facility.

Global commercial EV manufacturer Daimler Truck has made a minority investment in Apex.AI – a mobility software developer that provides a software development kit (SDK) for OEMs looking to implement complex AI and/or autonomous driving technology throughout their vehicles. Daimler Truck joins a growing list of OEMs invested in Apex.AI.

Commercial EV manufacturer Volta Trucks has shared a roadmap outlining plans to bring its all-electric Zero trucks to the United States next year. Its strategy will include the 16-ton Volta Zero truck to begin, followed by Class 5 and 6 variants. Additionally, Volta Trucks is searching for a manufacturing partner on US soil to begin building the Zero trucks before year’s end.

German automotive conglomerate Volkswagen Group has shared positive Q1 reports, outlining a robust business despite global inhibitors like supply chain shortages and conflict in Eastern Europe. With its 2022 outlook optimistically confirmed, Volkswagen is expanding investments in R&D that includes new EV technologies as well as major funds to bring more BEVs to North America.

Following news last week of a slew of new updates coming to the 2023 Polestar 2, the automaker has shared US pricing for both trims as well as their available upgrade packs. The single motor 2023 Polestar 2 will arrive at a starting MSRP of $48,400 – higher than the 2022 model but with added features.

Group14 Technologies, a manufacturer of silicon-carbon tech for lithium-silicon batteries, announced it has raised $400 million in a Series C funding round led by Porsche AG. Group14’s technology can help deliver better-performing cells compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries and will use the funds to begin building a second manufacturing facility on US soil to expedite tech to Porsche.

According to a recent report from Electrify America, it delivered 1.45 million charging sessions to customers in 2021 – that’s over five times more than the 268,000 sessions recorded a year prior. The sessions represent estimations of millions of gallons of gasoline spared on US roads, as well as evidence of the benefits a transition to electric vehicles can provide.

As first deliveries of Ford’s highly-anticipated F-150 Lightning begin this week, the American automaker has announced the all-electric pickup will arrive with more horsepower and higher payload capacity that originally promised. Furthermore, Ford announced new cloud software that more accurately estimates the F-150 Lightning’s range while towing in real-time. The more it’s used, the more precise it can become.

After an eight year hiatus, German boutique automaker Wiesmann has returned to the world of luxury sports cars, beginning with a new roadster EV convertible called “Project Thunderball.” While the first all-electric vehicle from Wiesmann remains a prototype, the automaker tells us it’s an advanced one that is already on sale. According to a recent report out of Germany, Volkswagen is flirting with the idea of opening a second US production facility, possibly in Chattanooga, TN, where its current footprint is. In addition to significantly expanding its capacity on US soil, Volkswagen is also reportedly considering implementing a battery cell plant nearby as well.

Volkswagen has announced a strategic partnership with BP to expand the latter’s EV charging network across the EU and UK, beginning immediately. The first of 4,000 Volkswagen Flexpole chargers planned for Germany and the UK began service today, and the partnership allows for up to 4,000 more to be installed in other EU countries – all by 2024.

Global technology company ABB announced a global framework agreement with Shell to provide its technology to help the latter grow its EV charging network. This agreement builds upon a collaboration of the two entities that began in 2019 and will include ABB’s Terra 360 fast charger.

All-electric submarine manufacturer U-Boat Worx has announced its latest series of submersibles called NEXUS, comprised of seven- and eight-person vessels (nine if some are children). These electric submarines are powered by lithium-ion battery technology allowing them to operate for up to 18 hours and dive 10 times a day. In addition to providing eco-friendlier ocean exploration, they look cool as hell.

Portable EV charging developer ZipCharge has announced its latest addition to EV infrastructure with the GoHub. This modular, portable public charging station can be installed anywhere on a footprint the size of a parking space – no matter if its the single-sided 5 charger layout, or the double-sided 10 unit version. The GoHub houses ZipCharge’s Go EV power banks that provide portable energy to both owners and subscribers.

The Venice Racing team will officially be on the starting grid during the inaugural season of E1’s all-electric race boat championship. We can expect more racing teams to follow as the E1 Series is in conversations with dozens of other prospective teams.

Polestar has announced a bunch of upgrades to the Polestar 2, including two new exterior colors, new wheels, and updates to its interior. By swapping out certain materials and components for those using renewable energy, Polestar has been able to lower the carbon emissions per car while also using blockchain to trace minerals from their source to the finished EV to ensure ethical mining.
