Audi announces ‘Vorsprung 2030’ electrification strategy, sets 2033 expiry for ICE models

In its continued journey toward vehicle electrification, Audi has announced goals to become a sustainable, social, and technological leader by 2030. This is all part of a new corporate strategy from Audi called “Vorsprung 2030,” with the goal of accelerating the automaker’s electrified transformation originally slotted for 2026. Furthermore, Audi will continue to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle production, approaching an end date of 2033.

Audi debuts A6 e-tron concept on new EV platform, plans 2022 release

Audi has just shown the future of their electric sedans with the A6 e-tron concept, which debuted at the Shanghai auto show today.

The sedan is based on a new platform that Audi is calling “Premium Platform Electric” or “PPE” for short, developed in collaboration with Porsche. This platform will enable Audi to offer several new vehicles, with the first hitting the road in late 2022.

In the late summer, we were given the keys to Audi’s second all-electric car, the E-Tron Sportback, and while there is much to admire, it has taken us a little longer than usual to broadcast. Why? Well, there has always seemed to be more affordable, and in turn more accessible, electric cars to talk about to the public, including the VW ID.4VW ID.3Honda eTesla Model Y, and most recently the Mazda MX-30.

Slowly but surely, car companies are offering increasingly cost-competitive vehicles, but Audi is going against that grain by offering an even more expensive EV at the second time of asking. We understand that Audi is a luxury carmaker, but we feel compelled to ask, does this strategy stack up? Or could this short-sightedness potentially cost them in the long run?
