Norway is ahead of the game in EV sales, with gasoline’s share of the new car market vanishing more and more every month, faster than almost anyone outside of Electrek‘s Slack channel could have predicted. This has led Norway to have the earliest target for the phaseout of new gas vehicle sales in the world – 2025.

But gas cars might not even last that long. According to an analysis printed by the Norwegian Automobile Federation’s magazine, Motor, the downward trend in sales for gas cars has been so consistent and steep that the last new gas car sale in Norway could happen just seven months from now, in April 2022.

NIO began offering test drives yesterday to consumers in Norway of its ES8 electric SUV, ahead of deliveries to the Scandinavian country later this year. With early test drive reservations already locked up, Norwegians can now experience NIO’s flagship electric SUV on off-road terrain and on an airport tarmac.

A Norwegian company called Yara International claims to have created the world’s first zero-emission ship that can also transport cargo autonomously. The Yara Birkeland electric cargo ship was first conceptualized in 2017 but now looks to make its first voyage with no crew members onboard later this year in Norway.

Chinese automaker XPeng has officially begun its first venture overseas as it has loaded its P7 EVs on a ship headed for Norway. This initial batch of smart electric sedans represents XPeng’s commitment to a full-scale operation in Norway and an eventual expansion further into Europe.

Norway shows us yet another glimpse of the future as electric cars are making gas-powered car sales vanish in the market.

The latest new car sales data from Norway shows a gas-powered car market disappearing at an insane pace.

NIO’s expansion overseas has officially begun as superchargers and swap stations have begun their journey to Norway and are expected to arrive next month. According to the Chinese automaker, home chargers and superchargers will be officially available to Norwegian customers beginning in September, while the first rollout of four battery swap stations will become available before year’s end.

Norway’s internal combustion engine car sales (petrol and diesel) are crashing to now just a handful per month, and the rest of the world will follow faster than you might think.

As promised, GM has a new ad campaign running on the 2021 Super Bowl touting its commitment to electric vehicles against Norway‘s, a country pushing up against two-thirds of its vehicle sales being EVs…

All-electric cars have hit a new record 54% market share of Norway’s total new cars sales in 2020 – showing that the goal of 100% of new car sales being all-electric by 2025 is achievable.

Electric cars continue to dominate in Norway, as 2019 saw EV sales rise to 42.4%, up from 31.2% in 2018, according to OFV.  This represents almost a 1/3 increase in EV sales from year to year.

Adding in plug-in hybrid sales, about 56% of Norway’s new car sales in 2019 had a plug.

Sales numbers were buoyed by a record year for Tesla, whose Model 3 was the most popular car in Norway in 2019.

Germany has taken the lead over Norway in annual EV sales for the first time, edging out Norway for total sales since the start of this year, as reported by Bloomberg. Currently, Germany’s 2019 total is 57,533 EVs, while Norway has sold 56,893.

This would be good news for Germany — if it weren’t so embarrassing for them and the rest of Europe.  Norway is a tiny country with a population of 5.3 million, where the main industry is oil, and where the whole country is cold. Germany’s population is roughly 16 times larger than Norway’s. And yet, Norway has still had higher EV sales than every country in Europe until now.
