Harley-Davidson is now building custom electric bicycles that actually look incredible

Harley-Davidson’s electric bicycle brand known as Serial 1 has several eye-catching e-bike designs that already draw on a bit of retro flair. But now the company has doubled down on the nostalgia with a custom chopper-style electric bike that resembles a classic Schwinn Stingray bicycle.

And it’s not the last custom e-bike design that Harley has planned for the future.

Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week: $3,500 electric police car(t)

Alibaba electric police cart

Times are tight all over the place as state budgets are being slashed. So if any police departments need an affordable alternative to a souped-up Dodge Charger or Ford Expedition, then this fun little electric police car might be just what the sheriff ordered. And if we don’t have any real boys in blue lining up for this fun cart, at least it’s got everything I need to make it the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week!

Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week: $750 3-passenger electric bike

Nat King Cole may have wooed Daisy with a tandem ride in On a Bicycle Built for Two, but I wonder if he would have won her over quite as easily if he had propositioned her with this funny little three-seater electric bike.

It may be odd-looking, but I love the weird combination of utility and style that makes this thing so awesome. That’s why it’s perfect for this week’s edition of the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week series!

Two-wheelers replacing four: Is the IAA’s new focus on mobility a glimpse of the future for global cities?

IAA-Mobility-Munich

The Frankfurt Auto Show, better known in many circles by its German initials IAA, was the biggest automotive show in the world. But if the last 18 months have taught us anything, it’s that the world is changing – and quickly. Transportation has been one of the most affected areas of society, and that’s hitting consumers everywhere from their pocketbooks to their trade shows.

So perhaps it’s fitting that the world’s largest auto show has evolved into the world’s largest mobility show, coming this September.

Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week: $2,000 stretch limousine electric trike

Back in high school, prom night saw several of the senior elite roll up to the dance in fancy limos. Something tells me that if I had pulled the same move in this funny stretch limousine electric tricycle, I might not have gotten a quick invite to the cool kids’ table. But that’s ok. Life’s too short to care about anything other than having fun — and this trike has fun written all over it in size 12,000 font.

Bird is adding a puzzle to its electric scooters to keep drunk riders off

Drunk riding is a big problem with shared electric scooters. It’s just as illegal (and dumb) as drunk driving, but that hasn’t stopped scores of riders from engaging in the dangerous practice. And so now Bird is rolling out a new update that the company hopes will stump would-be inebriated scooter riders before they can rent an electric scooter and hit the road.

Zero FXE launched as new electric motorcycle model, and we got the first test ride!

zero FXE

Zero certainly has not been resting on its laurels as a leading electric motorcycle manufacturer. However, the last few launches of new models were targeted at the more premium end of the market with the SR/F and SR/S electric motorcycles. Now Zero has launched a new model that targets the entry-level end of its catalog with the Zero FXE.

The company was kind enough to invite me out to Santa Cruz, California, to test the motorcycle in Zero’s hometown. As I surreptitiously wound up the forest roads on a yet-unreleased electric motorcycle, with nothing but the soft whirr of the bike’s electric motor to invade my consciousness, I couldn’t help but think to myself, “Damn, now this is how people should be getting around town.”

Greyp just launched a new, high-tech 100 km electric trekking bike, and we’ve got the first ride!

Nestled in the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia, sits an unassuming building where some of the most high-tech electric bicycles in the world are dreamed up, designed, and then manufactured. Greyp applies the same kind of forward-thinking approaches as its electric supercar parent company, Rimac, resulting in e-bikes that are both high performance and high tech. Now the company has branched out into yet another e-bike category as it tackles trekking bikes with the new Greyp e-SUV T5.

And to help me get a better understanding of what goes into these e-bikes, Greyp brought me out to their headquarters and gave me the honor of the first-ever external test of the new bike.
