Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week: Quad-Motor Four-Legged ‘Spider Bike’

When I set out each week to find the wildest electric vehicles for my regular Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column, they are usually at least classifiable into categories like “bikes”, “cars” and “scooters”. But every now and again, I find something so wacky that it simply defies classification.

The latest example of Lamarckian evolution run amok on the most infamous Chinese shopping site of all is this funky “Spider Bike”.

Closer look at the A-Ride, a powerful full-suspension electric bike/scooter crossover

The electric mobility sector has grown by leaps and bounds over the last several years. In addition to plenty of conventional electric bikes and e-scooters, that growth has included several unique and innovative additions to the world of personal electric vehicles. The A-Ride from Canadian company Alpine Riding definitely fits into the latter category, and I think you’ll see why.

You’ve heard of electric bike sharing – now check out electric boat sharing

For some time now we’ve been following the development of the Candela C-8 electric hydrofoil boat, whose Swedish manufacturer says is the fastest electric speedboat in the world. Or at least it will be, once it makes its maiden voyage later this winter.

However, the €290,000 premium electric hydrofoil boat remains out of the reach of all but the most elite of boat owners. But what if you didn’t have to own one just to enjoy it? That’s what Candela is making possible thanks to a new partnership with the Agapi Boat Club.

Here’s how Ride1Up developed its fast and affordable ‘Cafe Cruiser’ 2-passenger e-bike

Last month, San Diego-based electric bicycle company Ride1Up unveiled its Cafe Cruiser electric bicycle. While many new electric bicycle models these days feature similar mashups of common features, the new Class 3 e-bike offered a retro-inspired design and seating for two passengers in a form factor we rarely see. It also marked a stark departure for the commuter-oriented electric bicycle company that designed it.

And the bike’s inclusion of parts, like a large 720 Wh hidden battery, hydraulic disc brakes, 80 mm hydraulic front suspension, and frame-integrated rack, made the $1,595 price even more impressive.

Biktrix Moto review: A fun moped-style electric bike that can cruise for days on a charge

I absolutely love moped-style electric bikes. They are just so much fun to ride! The format gives you that fun-loving motorcycle cruising feeling, yet keeps you legal as a bicycle without all the hassle of motor vehicle ownership. And rarely have I seen a moped-style electric bike capture the motorbike essence quite as well as the Biktrix Moto.

This is one seriously exciting bike to ride, combining the convenience of the bicycle world with the cruising attitude of the motorbike industry.

After warning and ‘F’ rating from BBB, electric scooter & e-bike company GoTrax responds

We’ve all heard it: “Supply chain issues”. It’s one of the main reasons for disruptions to so many industries across the spectrum. And at a time when micromobility products such as electric bikes and e-scooters are taking off like wildfire, many companies are coming under fire for their slow shipping and slower responses to customer complaints. But while several companies have battled with angry consumer sentiment, one has drawn more ire than anyone else: GoTrax.

It got so bad that the Better Business Bureau issued a rare public warning last month, informing consumers that it was flagging GoTrax and giving the company an “F” rating.

Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week: $2,500 Chinese farm truck

Electric farm trucks are awesome – I actually bought one from China to use as a utility vehicle around my parents’ sprawling property. But while mine looks like a knockoff American truck, I recently found a much more Eastern-style truck that has me intrigued. It’s a perfect selection for the latest entry in my Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column!
