Ford considers extending EV range with Jedi mind tricks, colored lights

Red and blue lights in Ford electric vehicles

Electric vehicles with large cabins suck up a lot of energy by running heat and AC. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory believes an EV’s climate control system can reduce the driving range by up to 50%. So Ford engineers in Europe are experimenting with psychological tricks that make passengers feel hotter and colder without actually depleting range.

EU regs mean they’ll get majority of Ford’s 50k first-year Mach E production

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford will allocate 60% of their first-year Mustang Mach E production to Europe in order to meet EU fleet emissions regulations, according to an inside source at Ford.

First-year production will be limited to 50,000 due to battery constraints. This means Europe will receive about 30,000 cars in the first year, while the US will receive about 20,000.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is being well-received by the EV community, but the people who seem to like it the least seem to be Mustang fans who can’t conceive of an all-electric Mustang.

Ford produced a movie about the making of the Mustang Mach-E, which seems to be aimed at selling the idea of an electric Mustang to Mustang owners and fans.

Ford Mustang Mach-E home charging: First look, on par with Tesla

Ford Mustang Mach-E charging

Last month we reviewed the portable charging cords OEMs provide with their North American electric vehicles, and the results were wild.  We gave Tesla’s Gen2 UMC an A+, Audi an A, Nissan a B, Hyundai a D, GM a D-, BMW an F, and Jaguar an F-. Now we have our first look and some exclusive details about what Ford is calling simply the “Ford Mobile Charger”. Based on what we know so far, we can confidently predict an A rating, but probably an A+, and we may have to level down all the other OEMs besides Tesla. And Ford is including a couple of extras that Tesla doesn’t.

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E: 55 years on, the great American pony car goes electric

It is hard to imagine a bigger milestone in the transition away from internal combustion engines than Ford’s iconic Mustang going electric. The Mustang debuted in late 1964 and has symbolized the American sports car, speed, and the pleasure of the open road in the 55 years since. Sure, in recent years, the Mustang might have grown a little stale with its loud, polluting combustion engines that don’t come close to the performance of electric motors from Tesla and others.

But today Ford made it official, the Mustang is going electric with the “Mach-E” nameplate.
