Tesla (TSLA) achieved record deliveries and exports in China in November with over 100,000 China-made vehicles in a single month.

However, reports are suggesting that Tesla is now slowing down its production output at Gigafactory Shanghai due to lower demand in China.

Chinese part supplier orders super die-casting machines from Tesla partner, could NIO and Xpeng adopt one-piece manufacturing?

Guangdong Hongtu Technology (GHT), a part supplier to Chinese EV automakers like NIO and XPeng, announced it will begin developing a 12,000-ton die-casting unit with the help of Tesla supplier LK Technology. Recent responses from representatives at NIO and XPeng hint that they might soon be using GHT’s large, one-piece die-casting machines to manufacture their own EVs.

Tesla recalls 21,599 Model Ys made in China, citing steering knuckle issues

According to a statement from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), Tesla Shanghai filed a recall plan for 21,599 Model Y EVs manufactured in the country. The automaker cited issues pertaining to the strength of front and rear steering knuckles, stating they may not meet the automaker’s design requirements.

Ford unveils lower-priced Mustang Mach-E in China to qualify for subsidies

Over the weekend, US automaker Ford unveiled a new, long-range RWD version of its Mustang Mach-E in China, priced at 282,000 yuan ($43,450) to qualify for state-led subsidies. This long-range SE version of Ford’s Mach-E is the fifth to see the EV market in China, but only the second priced low enough to qualify for subsidies.

XPeng shares aggressive pricing for new P5 sedan, undercutting Tesla Model 3 by $14k

Chinese EV automaker XPeng Motors has shared pricing on its upcoming P5 sedan, and it’s quite ambitious. The automaker has officially begun accepting pre-orders on the P5, and has shared that the pricing will begin at 160,000 yuan ($24,650), significantly lower than competitor Tesla’s Model 3, which starts at 250,900 yuan ($38,650) in China.

Tesla reportedly strikes deal with China to build ‘wholly-owned’ gigafactory in Shanghai

There have been several false alarms over the past few years about Tesla building a factory in China. Earlier this year, Tesla finally confirmed working with the Shanghai government to establish a manufacturing facility in the region and promised an announcement by the end of the year.

Now the Wall Street Journal reports that they have come to an agreement with the local authorities on a “wholly owned” factory in the region.
