In Germany where the robotaxi testing initially started, Volkswagen will begin transporting actual passengers for the first time, including government officials.

Volkswagen slashes ID.3 price in China to boost EV sales, starts at under $18K

Once considered the leader in China’s auto industry, Volkswagen has watched its share of the pie shrink over the past year or so as EV makers like BYD, NIO, and Tesla steal the show. In an attempt to draw in buyers, VW is slashing the price of its small ID.3 electric car.

For a limited time, VW will offer the ID.3 at a “historical low price,” starting as low as 125,900 yuan (roughly $17,500).

A mere few weeks after a digital animation of an electric Volkswagen Beetle stirred the rumor mill about a real-life version, the CEO of the passenger cars business has said otherwise. Although the German automaker recently revived its classic Bus as a BEV with several other familiar VW nameplates to follow, the Beetle will remain exterminated for now.

Volkswagen leaning down and optimizing product to try and double profitability

As Volkswagen Group refocuses its business strategy to further prioritize profitability and cashflow, it is announcing a new optimization program pertaining to its Passenger Cars namesake specifically. The “Accelerate forward | Road to 6.5” program will leverage synergy across the VW Passenger Car brands in order to more than double profits to 6.5%.
