Maserati halts development of its electric Quattroporte sedan, its third EV now facing delays

Local reports out of Europe state that Stellantis-owned luxury automaker Maserati is putting a pin in the development of an all-electric version of its Quattroporte sedan to ensure it can deliver on the performance previously touted by the Italian automaker. Following the initial announcement of its “Folgore” 100% electric range strategy in 2020, Maserati has given the public an update as to where it stands on EVs. During a press event this morning, the Italian luxury vehicle manufacturer reiterated plans to electrify its entire lineup by 2025. This will begin next year with two 100% electric Maserati models – the GrandTurismo EV and the Grecale SUV.

Maserati confirms it will launch an all-electric version of its stunning Alfieri concept car

Earlier this year, Roberto Fedeli, Maserati’s head of engineering, confirmed that he was tasked by CEO Sergio Marchionne to bring to market an all-electric vehicle before 2020. At the time, the engineer didn’t reveal much more, but a company official has now confirmed that the electric car they plan to bring to market will be based on the stunning Alfieri concept Maserati unveiled in 2014.

Maserati Engineering Chief announces electric GT coupe, compares Tesla’s quality to 1970s German automakers

If you are an established automaker and you are announcing an upcoming electric vehicle, especially if it’s in a premium segment, it is apparently an obligation to compare it to Tesla right away – even if it is years from coming to market.

Maserati dealership takes down Tesla Model S vs Ghibli comparison after Tesla fans debunk it

The Maserati dealership of Kirkland marketed a page listing several comparisons between its vehicles and competing models. One of the top comparisons was of a Maserati Ghibli versus a Tesla Model S and the organisation had to take it down yesterday after Tesla fans claimed the automaker was lying about the performance of the vehicles in order to paint the Ghibli in a better light.
