Prologue first drive: A beginner-level EV on par with Honda’s first entry into the segment

Honda Motor Company sits on the cusp of delivering its first EV – the Prologue – to the US market. Developed with the help of General Motors, this all-electric SUV is a notable start to zero-emissions vehicles and should do well with fans of the Japanese brand who are new to EVs. I got to drive the Prologue in California last month and have plenty of thoughts.

First drive in the Kia EV9: The three-row electric SUV many consumers have been waiting for

Three months after opening US orders for the long-anticipated three-row EV9 SUV, the folks at Kia invited media out to wine country to test drive it for the first time. We’ve already had up-close encounters with the EV9, but this was our first chance to take it for a spin and really test everything inside and out (including that third row). While you probably can’t put bodybuilders in the back seat, the EV9 delivers in a lot of ways other OEMs are not and at a relatively enticing price point.

Audi SQ8 e-tron first drive: This tri-motor EV drives nimbly for its size, but sacrifices a lot of range

Last week, I got an invite from Audi to venture to (normally) sunny Los Angeles and take a spin behind the wheel of its latest EV model – the SQ8 e-tron. Available as a standard quattro and Sportback version, the tri-motor SQ8 takes the previously launched Q8 e-tron and refines it in a number of ways to improve performance… well, everything aside from range, that is.

First drive in the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: A beauty of an EV… just not for long trips

Several months after Genesis rolled its first Electrified GV70 EVs off its assembly lines in the US, I got the chance to take it for a spin. I had a long drive from Chicago to Des Moines planned and thought, “why not test out an EV while I’m doing it?” Genesis was kind enough to send me a 2023 Electrified GV70 and I learned a lot on my journey. This is a beautiful car, but the lack of Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform beneath it is hard to ignore. Here are my thoughts.

2023 Nissan Ariya first drive: e-4ORCE shines in a perfect crossover for drivers new to EVs

This week, Nissan invited a select group of writers up to Wine Country to test drive the pre-production models of its all-electric 2023 Ariya crossover SUV. This was my first experience in the Ariya and I was excited at the opportunity to try out Nissan’s AWD e-4ORCE technology. It did not disappoint. These upcoming Ariya EVs deserve a look as a viable EV option loaded with standard features you won’t find in many of its competitor’s EVs, but the automaker may still have trouble standing out from the pack.

Lucid Air Touring first drive: This model could be the one to splurge on

Another version of the Lucid Air is reaching reservation holders, so naturally, that means it was also time for me to get behind the wheel of it and test it for myself. My latest Lucid EV loan was with the Touring – the third in the lineup and second most affordable option behind the Air Pure. I’ve pushed the Air Dream Edition’s 1,111 horsepower out on the highways of Arizona and have driven the Air Grand Touring up the California coast, but the Touring might just offer the most bang for your buck.

First drive, Nissan Ariya: the stable relationship

Nissan invited the media out for a day at the track with the Nissan Ariya, the company’s long awaited second EV. After spending time driving and goofing with the crossover, I realize this vehicle is simply amazing. I think the Ariya is exactly what the American buying public would want and expect from an EV – the kind of predictable car you can settle down with in the fall and make plans for the future.

But, will someone snatch it up if you go on a summer fling with Tesla?
