Ford reopens F-150 Lightning orders as production (and prices) ramp up

Today we’ve learned that Ford Motor Company has reopened its order books to the next wave of F-150 Lightning reservation holders. The news comes as the American automaker returns to full production of the all-electric truck this week at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan. That being said, those reservation holders will see higher MSRPs across multiple trims. Here’s the latest.

Ford CEO Jim Farley emphasized the necessity of building out a supply chain in the US for critical battery minerals, calling it the constraint to accelerating EV production. Meanwhile, the American automaker continues manufacturing massive batteries, upwards of 140 kWh, for its full-size electric truck, the F-150 Lightning. Ford is celebrating one year of its all-electric E-Transit vehicles hitting roads with a slew of encouraging stats surrounding the EV. Since February of 2022, Ford E-Transit drivers have already completed more than 12 million miles navigating through the US and Canada, alleviating a huge amount of gasoline required for combustion vans of the same size. Ford eliminates 3,800 jobs in European reinvention that’s ‘unapologetically American’

Well, we knew this was coming, but not the exact magnitude it would entail. Following a scheduled discussion today, Ford of Europe has announced the elimination of 3,800 jobs – mostly in Germany and the UK – as it restructures its business overseas to support EV development. The leaning down also includes a complete rebranding of Ford in Europe to convey as much, to the point of being “unapologetically American.”
