Tesla is sending hundreds of battery packs to power outage-ridden Puerto Rico

Earlier this month, we reported on survivors of hurricane Irma, which hit the islands of Caribbean communities, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, writing ‘SEND TESLA’ with the debris of their destroyed home.

At the time, we couldn’t be sure what they meant, but now we have a better idea since Tesla confirmed that have been sending hundreds of battery packs to power outage-ridden Puerto Rico.

Tesla Powerwall 2 starts trickling down to more markets in the US

Tesla unveiled and started taking orders for Powerwall 2, its latest generation of home battery packs, almost a year ago (October 2016). As we reported at the time, the product at that price point was a game changer in the residential energy storage market.

Yet, installations are still very limited in the US today as thousands of reservation holders are still waiting.

Now it looks like Tesla is finally expanding the reach of the highly anticipated product.

Tesla to release in-car app for solar roof/Powerwall monitoring, says Elon Musk

Tesla announces new electric grid services by bundling Powerwalls and Powerpacks

Tesla has already been offering energy storage services to electric utilities with the Powerpack – like its 80 MWh Powerpack station with Southern California Edison.

But now, the company announces that it will be bundling its residential energy storage product, the Powerwall, with the Powerpack to create “a single resource of shared energy.”

Tesla launches new Powerwall and solar integration in the ‘Tesla Mobile app’

Tesla in talks with Australian utilities to fix country’s power problems by deploying large-scale energy storage

At the launch of the Tesla Powerwall 2 in Australia yesterday, Lyndon Rive, SolarCity’s former CEO who is now Tesla’s Vice President of Energy products since the acquisition, said that the company is in talks with local utilities to quickly deploy large-scale energy storage.

Tesla Powerwall 2 now ready to ship after strong pre-orders, early Gigafactory battery production went to Powerpacks

When unveiling its second generation home energy storage system, Powerwall 2, last October, Tesla announced that production would start at the Gigafactory in December 2016 for the first deliveries in the US in January 2017. Other markets were set to follow soon after. Tesla later updated its delivery estimate to February in the US.

We can now report that Powerwall 2 production is about to ramp up after early battery production at the Gigafactory was dedicated to Powerpack projects.

In my opinion, Tesla is currently by far the most interesting tech company to follow and 2016 was its most exciting year yet. I think the highlights are clear: Model 3 unveil event, introduction of Autopilot 2.0 on all cars, which could enable fully self-driving capability, and finally the unveiling of the solar roof products.

While 2016 was a year of unveilings, 2017 will be a year of execution for Tesla. The company plans to bring all those promising products that it unveiled in 2016 to market, and it also plans to announce a few more.

We were live at Universal Studios in Los Angeles today for Tesla’s unveiling of its new integrated energy solution with ‘solar roof and Powerwall’. For the event, Tesla and SolarCity retrofitted with the new solar roof solutions a bunch of houses used for film and tv sets by Universal Studios.

The company surprised everyone with not only one solar roof, but several new solar roof options, including designs that look like Textured Glass Tile, Slate Glass Tile, Tuscan Glass Tile, and Smooth Glass Tile.
