XPeng’s first EV to utilize pure vision will be called the P7+ and we have our first images of it

One day after reports stated XPeng’s next BEV will abandon LiDAR for pure vision cameras, the Chinese automaker has confirmed its official model name and shared first images. Here’s what we know about the BEV, called the P7+, which XPeng’s founder says is on a “mission to open a new era of intelligent driving.”

Following reports dating back to February, XPeng Motors appears to be genuinely beginning a transition from LiDAR sensors to pure vision cameras in advanced driver systems. The ADAS technology, similar to that of Tesla, is expected to roll out in a new XPeng BEV model later this year.

For a couple of years, two of the leading driving systems pushing the limits of automotive autonomy have been Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) and XPeng Motors’ Navigation Guided Pilot (XNGP). Both EV automakers are leading the race in their respective markets, but neither technology is available in the opposite country (at least for now). In a cool video recently posted by XPeng, founder, chairman, and CEO He Xiaopeng tested out Tesla FSD for himself in the US and documented his experience, which you can see in the video below.

A Chinese auto blogger on Weibo has posted spy images of what could very well be our first public look at XPeng’s new EV sedan, codenamed “F57,” and rumored to officially debut as the P8…. or P9.
