XPeng’s regulatory filings share plans for facelifts to its G6 and G9 EVs, each abandoning LiDAR

According to regulatory filings in China, EV automaker XPeng Motors is planning upgrades to at least two current models. The filings detail facelifts to the XPeng G6 and G9 SUVs and hint at the automaker’s strategy of moving on from LiDAR sensors in favor of pure vision cameras, similar to Tesla.

This is encouraging news for the automaker, which has put a lot of faith into its latest model as the EV that will compete with the Tesla Model Y and help boost its delivery numbers this year.

This morning, Chinese EV automaker XPeng Motors unveiled its next-generation EV architecture that will be the backbone to future models going forward. XPeng states the new SEPA 2.0 platform will not only shorten future models’ R&D cycles, but offer a modular, interchangeable, end-to-end solution that will support a multitude of vehicle types – like its upcoming G6 coupe sedan.
