Urban electric motorcycle and scooter showdown: Zero FXS vs City Slicker vs GenZe vs Bloomscooter

Zero FXS vs GenZe 2.0 vs City Slicker vs BloomScooter showdown

I like getting around on two wheels. It’s kind of my thing. Whether it’s an electric scooter, moped, bike, or motorcycle, I ride them all. And over the past year, I’ve spent a significant amount of saddle time on the four two-wheeled electric vehicles that I consider to be the best options for urban commuters: The 2019 Zero FXS electric supermoto, the 2019 CSC City Slicker urban electric motorcycle, the GenZe 2.0f electric scooter, and the BloomScooter electric scooter.

Each is a strong contender for top urban electric motorbike, so I wanted to do a comparison to see how they stack up against each other. Check out my video below and read on to see why each of these could be the best urban electric commuter.

Druid

[Update: highly shady] Druid preparing 120 mile electric motorcycle and 200 mile hybrid motorcycle

[Update: It’s looking like Druid is at best claiming to be further along than they are, or at worst misleading their work. The article has been updated accordingly. While the information in the article was originally provided by the company, it is now looking like Druid has used doctored photos to indicate progress that is further along (or more existent) than in reality.

Druid representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment on the issues with their claims.]

Druid claims to be the latest startup hoping to become the next great American electric motorcycle manufacturer. And they’ve started by showing off images of two pre-production models: an all-electric motorcycle and a hybrid electric motorcycle.

Electric motorcycles break records at the brutal Isle of Man TT Zero race

isle of man

The world-famous – and famously deadly – Isle of Man TT race is going on this week, and alongside the gas superbike races there’s an electric-only TT Zero class racing in its tenth year.

In this year’s race, Michael Rutter and Team Mugen set a new electric superbike lap record for the course, with a 121.91mph (196.2km/h) lap in 18:34.172.  This narrowly beats the previous record by about a second, and about a tenth of a mile per hour.  This is Rutter’s fifth win of the TT Zero.

The $114,000 Arc Vector electric motorcycle is actually headed for production next year

arc vector

Despite the fairly nascent state of the electric motorcycle industry, there is actually a decent variety of models available. And while some companies compete on the reasonably affordable level, the Arc Vector is one bike that throws affordability to the wind in favor of ultra-premium design. And while the Arc Vector’s fate has been a matter of speculation, it now appears that the electric motorcycle will actually see production.

I wrote a new book about electric motorcycles, here are the top 5 e-motos of 2019

Electric Motorcycles 2019 Book

As an electric vehicle journalist specializing in two-wheelers, I’ve had the pleasure of riding many more than my fair share of electric motorbikes. I believe 2019 is the year that these powerful, efficient, and fun vehicles finally take off and receive the mass market attention that they deserve.

And so it is with great pleasure that I get to announce that my latest book, Electric Motorcycles 2019, launches today. And it is available for up to 90% off for a limited time.
