CATL introduces first-gen sodium-ion battery and AB lithium-sodium pack

During its “Tech Zone” online launch event, global battery maker CATL introduced its first-generation sodium-ion battery, as well as an AB solution that integrates both sodium-ion and lithium-ion cells into one pack. While this first generation of sodium-ion cells is not here to overtake traditional lithium-ion batteries, they do present a number of benefits for charging, maintaining energy, and helping to promote cleaner energy.

Hyundai taps CATL and SK Innovation to supply more batteries for E-GMP

Hyundai Motor Group just announced it has chosen both SK Innovation and CATL as battery suppliers for its E-GMP. The Asian battery manufacturers will provide the third batch of lithium-ion battery cells for Hyundai’s electric vehicles launching after 2023. Both CATL and SK Innovation are familiar with the process, as they have previously delivered to Hyundai’s E-GMP production in the past.

When BMW unveiled the all-electric iX3 SUV in Beijing earlier this year, the German automaker’s plan for the vehicle wasn’t clear outside of China.

Now they have confirmed that the upcoming new electric vehicle will be built in China and exported to other markets as the automaker confirms a massive new battery contract for the production of its new electric vehicles.
