Porsche and Audi electric vehicles recalled over insufficient battery sealing

Porsche and Audi, two Volkswagen premium brands, are issuing recalls for 2023 electric vehicle models, including the Taycan and e-tron GT. Nearly 7,000 EVs are being recalled due to insufficient battery sealant that may allow liquid to enter, posing a fire risk. Although no incidents have involved fires, the automakers are issuing recalls out of an abundance of caution.

Porsche Taycan, Macan EVs ‘on the right track’ to deliver comparable ICE margins

As Porsche moves toward an electric future, the automaker aims to deliver the same margins with its EVs, if not more, than its ICE models. Porsche’s production manager Albrecht Reimold says the Taycan and Macan EVs are “on the right track” to achieve a comparable margin with its combustion engine models.

As Porsche looks to eventually transition into an all-electric sports car brand, it is establishing a new software-centric division at its Nardò Technical Center proving ground in Italy. The automaker and its technical center will utilize the nearby talent pool of software experts and engineers to hail in a new era of digitalization that will enable highly automated driving and other functions in future EVs.

Perhaps it was a coincidence that Porsche unveiled its Mission X concept electric vehicle a mere week after Tesla’s Model S Plaid with Track Package took the electric Nurburgring crown from the Taycan. The first bullet point in the Mission X press release was:

“Be the fastest road-legal vehicle around the Nürburgring Nordschleife”

Or perhaps not. But now we’re getting a better look at the concept and can make our own assumptions on whether or not this thing, or some variant of it, will make it to production.
