Two legacy automakers, Kia and Honda, both revealed new electric vehicle targets as the market for zero-emission EVs continues growing at a record pace globally.

The Hyundai Motor Group revealed Tuesday plans to become a top three global EV producer by 2030 with a new roughly $18 billion domestic investment (KRW 24 trillion) to spark growth.

Kia updated its electric vehicle strategy Wednesday at its CEO Investor Day 2023 in Seoul, Korea. The automaker says it’s now aiming to sell 1.6 million EVs by 2030, up 400,000 from the previous guidance of 1.2 million.

With Kia forecasting 4.3 million overall sales by then, it would mean EVs would only account for 37% of all sales.

Just over a week after its global premiere streamed from Korea, Kia has debuted its upcoming EV9 SUV in North America, beginning with the crowds attending this year’s New York Auto Show.
