Last fall I walked into my local NIU dealership and rolled out on a shiny new black-and-red NIU NQi GT electric scooter. I’ve been steadily putting on the miles, though between lockdowns and traveling (believe it or not!), I haven’t ridden as much as I would have liked. But having now zoomed past 1,000 km (600 miles) on the odometer, I figure it’s time to let you know my full thoughts on this fun-loving city-conquering electric scooter.

Yamaha, and frankly all of the major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, have been slow to embrace electric motorcycles and scooters. This hesitation has opened the door to countless startups that have risen to meet the demand with quick progress.

Take one look at the Fiido Q1S seated electric scooter from Voro Motors and it doesn’t seem too strange. But then look again when a rider sits down and suddenly the proportions appear all out of whack.

Despite the odd-sizing, the scooter is actually more comfortable to ride than you’d expect. And its combination of power, torque, full-suspension, and utility make it a potent little urban runabout.
