See All Stories

Alibaba is China’s online shopping behemoth – an online marketplace featuring just about everything under the sun (or under the sea). It has just about everything you can imagine, which of course includes all sorts of interesting electric vehicles.

We run a weekly series to feature some of the most interesting finds in the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week.

Check out the various fun, weird and sometimes just plain odd electric vehicles below.

Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week: $2,000 electric horseless carriage

Electric vehicles aren’t exactly new technology – they’ve been around essentially since as long as cars have been around. So I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised to find what appears to be a Victorian horseless carriage with a hidden EV drivetrain.

What does surprise me is just how cheap it can be. But of course that’s a running theme on Alibaba, the internet’s backroom storage unit. And with a vehicle this out of the ordinary, you better believe it’s making my Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week series this week!

Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week: knockoff electric Hummer with a small catch

So here’s the thing: I’d love to have a brand-new GM electric Hummer when it comes out. It’d scratch my itch for adrenalized American excess without making me think too critically about my own contribution to the inevitable destruction of our world and everything we hold dear. The only problem is that I don’t have $80,000+ burning a hole in my pocket to plunk down on that beast of an EV.

But if you’re like me and are hoping to find a more affordable way to get your electric Hummer groove on, then you’ll want to check out this ridiculous knock-off electric Hummer straight from the coolest parts bin on the internet: Alibaba!

Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week: $900 electric drift trike, with a sidecar!

What could be a worse idea than flying around corners at high speeds on an unstable tricycle with intentionally low traction wheels? How about adding a high torque motor and doing the whole thing with a small child tied down next to you?

This electric drift trike with a sidecar makes it possible to share the joy (or abject terror) of a drift run with the closest pint-sized passenger. And fortunately for all of us, this thing is just weird enough to make it into this week’s edition of the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week series!

Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week: $1,000 for a 5-seater electric boat

cheap electric boat

Oh buoy, do I have a good one for you all this week! Who’s ready to set sail with the whole family on their very own electric boat for the cool price of just $1,000?! Well, you’re in luck, because that’s exactly what I’ve got on deck for you in this week’s installment of the Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week series!

While past entries in the series have featured such landlubbing vehicles as a $1,700 electric Jeep or the weirdest $4,800 electric RV you’ve ever seen, this week we’re mustering our sea legs and pushing off on a nautically themed voyage of the weirdest little electric corner of the internet: Alibaba’s electric vehicle catalog.

Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the week: A $4,800 electric RV, with a small catch

It’s the classic American road trip: loading up the family in an RV and hitting the open road. Driving from sunrise to sunset as the miles and the sights pass by your window, your travel partner smiling in the passenger seat.

But imagine if you could trade those gas fill-ups along the way for the satisfaction of power from clean and silent electrons. It’s no dream, my friend! You might actually be able to make it a reality with the electric RV I found for this week’s entry in the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week series. However, there’s a catch: You’ll probably have to leave extra travel companions at home in order to fit in this two seater, three-wheeled electric RV.

Awesomely weird Alibaba electric vehicle of the week: Electric go-karts under $400!

Go-karts are the perfect fun-mobiles to bring out the kid in anyone. But gone are the days when you had to choke down a cloud of exhaust to the deafening roar of a single screaming, overworked piston. These days, electric go-karts are providing kids and adults alike with fast, silent, and clean thrills around the local track or the neighborhood lady’s rose bushes.

For this week’s entry in the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week, I’ve found a pair of interesting electric go-karts for both adults and kids.

Awesomely weird Alibaba electric vehicle of the week: $3,200 electric SUV

Whether toting the neighborhood kids home after soccer practice or loading up for a road trip, SUVs offer the ultimate in vehicle utility. If you’re in the market for an electric SUV though, the options are both few and pricey.

Unless of course you head on over to the coolest little corner of the web, the electric vehicle market on Alibaba. That’s where I found today’s entry for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba EV of the Week: A pint-sized SUV that offers all of the charm and none of the utility of a full-size electric SUV!

Awesomely weird Alibaba EV of the week: 40 MPH and $2.8k electric dune buggy

Is there anything more fun than flying through the air in a dune buggy, 80’s music blasting and wild hair blowing in the wind? And what if you didn’t have to fiddle with an annoying engine or strain to hear your rock music over a popping exhaust? Even better, right?! While electric UTVs and dune buggies normally cost a premium over their gas-powered brethren, I’ve found a pretty darn affordable one for this week’s entry in the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week series.

This week’s entry for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week is a fun-looking little electric Jeep with room for two adventure-loving adults.
