Ever heard of a “digital drive” bike? It might seem like a strange concept, but several companies are developing commercial offerings that use electronics instead of a bike chain to power a bicycle’s rear wheel.

After a rollercoaster of a financial year, once-darling e-bike company VanMoof appears to be unable to pay its bills. The major Dutch electric bike maker has just applied for and received a postponement of payment from a Dutch court and is temporarily closing its stores.

Several years ago the team at Canada’s premier electric scooter company Apollo decided that they weren’t just going to sell off-the-shelf scooters. Instead, they were going to innovate with new designs and custom development to create unique and high performance scooters. After multiple launches of progressively more customized scooters, it feels like the new Apollo Pro has reached the pinnacle of that design ethos.

French automaker Peugeot is certainly not a newcomer to the electric bicycle world like many other automakers that have only begun dipping their toe in the e-bike waters. My regular readers will know that I’ve got quite a thing for golf carts. They’ll also know that I write a regular weekly column finding the coolest (and sometimes weirdest) electric vehicles in the massive online shopping catalog that is Alibaba. So when those things collide, well, that’s what we call serendipity, folks! And that’s exactly what happened this week with the discovery of this fun Jeep-like electric golf cart!

Electrek returned to Eurobike again this year, and as usual, the show was dominated by electric bikes. If you’re an old-school curmudgeon who has dug in your heels trying to slow the forward pedaling motion of e-bikes, that might leave you dismayed. For all of the rest of us, it was a great chance to see hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of companies showing off new e-bikes, e-bike gear, and sometimes unrelated yet equally cool transportation… things.

The show’s sheer vastness makes it impossible to cover even a small fraction of its entirety, but below you’ll find several of the standout features we saw at the show.

If you saw a good friend of yours, someone that you loved, backsliding again into their destructive habits, you’d say something, right? I would. And I have to do it now. America, you’re my friend. And we need to talk about all of these massive electric trucks.

The last few weeks have seen the floodgates open for electric vehicle manufacturers to sign on to Tesla’s NACS charging network, helping to solidify the standard as the new main charging connector for EVs in the US. But no electric motorcycle manufacturers had announced intentions to adopt Tesla’s charging connector, at least until now.

Gogoro, the current leader in battery-swapping electric scooters, has just announced a massive partnership with the Maharashtra government to spread its battery standard, battery-swapping stations, and electric scooters across the state.

Urtopia has prided itself on debuting tech-infused electric bicycles, such as using smartphone-like features including fingerprint unlocking. Now the company has taken it one step further by becoming the first electric bicycle company to integrate ChatGPT directly into its e-bike.
