EPA data shows Rivians are more efficient than Cybertrucks, even with larger wheels and batteries

Following several new documents containing details of the Tesla Cybertruck posted to the EPA’s website, we have been able to better understand the efficiencies the truck will achieve. While Cybertruck should perform better than nearly all its current competitors in the electric pickup segment, the slightly smaller Rivian R1T appears to have it beaten – even with larger wheels and battery packs.

Rivian CFO teases a new cheaper, simplified battery pack structure for R1 EVs coming in 2024

Rivian’s chief financial officer Claire McDonough shared some very interesting tidbit and excellent insight to the American automaker’s end of year goals and where it is headed in 2024. One juicy piece of information she gave the public during a recent interview is that Rivian is developing a new simplified battery pack structure different from the Standard pack, that will eventually make its way into new R1 EVs. Here’s the latest.

Rivian pulls 1st demand lever for R1T, offering $2,000 install credit and charger ahead of Cybertruck

Following a promising Q3 report that offered a rare rise in production targets, American EV automaker Rivian is looking to maximize sales of its existing R1T pickup inventory to round out 2023. Today, Rivian announced it will offer its Home Charging Bundle, which includes a $2,000 credit for installation, to customers who purchase their R1T from its inventory. More details below.

It looks like Rivian’s 400+-mile ‘Max pack’ is coming very soon (U:here!)

Rivian has added the “Max pack” option to its R1S configurator, and added “Max pack” as a filter criteria to its R1 shop, suggesting that vehicles with the massive 400+-mile pack will be shipping soon.

Update: Oct 3: Rivian has made it official, the Max pack is here, and deliveries have started for Max pack R1Ts.

Is Rivian’s powered tonneau cover coming back? Looks like it!

Nearly a year after informing reservation holders it would be halting all production of its electric tonneau cover to complete a redesign, Rivian’s R1T configurator is hinting at its imminent return. Since Rivian began R1T pickup production in 2021, I’ve been trying to get behind the doors of its facility in my native Illinois and only managed to get arrested for trespassing once (kidding). Last week, I finally got a chance to tour the revamped EV plant and test drive the new Dual-Motor R1 vehicles featuring Rivian’s new Enduro drive unit and I’ve gotta say – it begs the question, “Do you really need the Quad-Motor?”

Rivian offers same day delivery to customers visiting its Normal, IL facility… like a ‘normal’ car company

Rivian is saying it hears its customers loud and clear, and if they want to get themselves into a shiny new R1T, they’ll have the opportunity to drive off in one next weekend in Normal, Illinois. Customers who venture down to Rivian’s service center at its production hub next week can come see the electric pickups up close, buy one, take delivery, and take it home. You know, almost like a car dealer.
