Rimac, a Croatian electric vehicle startup, has long been a leader in electric hypercars with the Concept-One. Tesla disrupted that market with the unveiling of its next-gen Roadster last month and setting the bar for any upcoming electric hypercar – or any supercar really.

But Rimac is now about ready to answer with a new hypercar. The company released a teaser (pictured above and below) of the vehicle to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

While filming the second season of the Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour in Switzerland earlier today, ex-Top Gear host Richard Hammond crashed a $1 million Rimac Concept_One all-electric supercar.

Fortunately, Hammond reportedly “suffered no serious injury”, but the rare vehicle was completely destroyed.

This year one of the sleekest, sexiest cars at the New York International Autoshow has to be the Concept One from Rimac. It is labeled as the first fully electric hypercar and was first introduced in 2011. The final version that you see here made its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. During the 2015 and 2016 editions of the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Challenge, Croatian electric hypercar maker Rimac partnered with Team APEV and MONSTER SPORT, led by the racing legend Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima, to build a 1.1 MW all-electric racecar.

The 2018 model year Concept_One features an upgraded powertrain that makes the already insane performance of the all-electric vehicle even more impressive.

Almost all supercars, or what are now referred to as “hypercars”, are coming out with at least some form of electric powertrain these days, like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, or the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Aston Martin with its upcoming new AM-RB 001 hypercar in partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies is apparently no exception and will have a hybrid powertrain. The British automaker announced this week that the battery pack of its hybrid system will be manufactured by none other than Rimac, the maker of the all-electric Concept_One supercar.

Despite having first unveiled the all-electric Concept_One supercar in 2011, only a handful of units ever made their way to customers. The company first announced entering production in 2013 and a few customers took delivery, but then they made improvements to the car and claimed that 2016 was their first full year of production.

They are only now starting to deliver those “production Concept_One” units and a company official says they plan on delivering 8 units.

With the release of the Tesla Model S P100D in August, and deliveries last month I knew it was time to RIP combustion engines on the supercar circuit. The P100D hits 60mph in 2.5 seconds and hits a quarter mile in just over 10 seconds. The Model S also seats as many people (7) as a minivan, is very street smart and it part of a large and growing production line vs. the typical supercar which are only hand made in batches of 100 or so. Imagine if you built a limited production electric car optimized just for speed and not carrying a whole family.

Now the automaker is ready to show off its hard work at the Geneva Motors Show next week, where it will debut the “production version” of the Concept_One all-electric supercar, which the company is now calling a “hypercar”.

If you know of Rimac Automobili, it’s probably for being the maker of the Concept One electric supercar, but the Croatian car company is also the maker of the little known Greyp G12, a high performance electric bike. Performance comes at a price, the G12 starts at 6,500 EUR ($7,200 US), but the bike is equipped with a 1.3 kWh and a battery management system (BMS) based on the knowledge acquired during the conception of Rimac’s $1 million electric supercar.
