After a highly anticipated multi-step reservation process starting with Tesla and SpaceX employees, followed by in-store reservations, which created long queues at Tesla’s retail locations, and finally online reservations just an hour before the unveiling, Tesla finally launched the Model 3 – its first mass market electric vehicle.

After a highly anticipated multi-steps reservation process starting with Tesla and SpaceX employees, followed by in-store reservations, which created long queues at Tesla’s retail locations, and finally online reservations just an hour before the unveiling, Tesla finally launched the Model 3 – its first mass market electric vehicle.

All those reservations were sight-unseen and yet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company already had a staggering 115,000 Model 3 reservations with deposits and they are still coming in. At a base price of $35,000, it represent a future backlog of orders worth over $4 billion.

There’s no doubting the excitement around the imminent unveiling of Tesla’s third generation car, the Model 3, on March 31st. Last week we reported that Tesla store employees are expecting waiting lines of people trying to get an early reservation in the morning, likely even before they get to see the vehicle.

Additionally, we found out that as of late, the search term “Tesla Model 3” has been trending on search engines, which adds to the evident interest for the upcoming vehicle.

Tesla has over 24,000 Model X reservations, twice as much as they had for the Model S

A few months ahead of the launch of the Model X, Tesla could have over 24,000 reservations for the crossover-SUV, twice as much as the company had for the Model S before its official launch in 2012. Tesla confirmed back in December that they had around 20,000 reservations for the vehicle, the company could have added more than 4,000 reservations during the past 2 quarters. This number is in line with a tally created by members of the Tesla Motors Club
