Tesla CEO Elon Musk went on another “tweetstorm” Saturday afternoon and revealed a few more information about Model 3 reservations, upcoming updates and gift for reservation holders.
Musk confirmed that Tesla had 253,000 Model 3 reservations this morning and he will update the number tonight, then once more on Wednesday.
At ~$1,000 in deposit per reservation (depending on the currency/country), it adds up to about $250 million in interest-free loans for Tesla.
253k as of 7am this morning— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 2, 2016
Will give an update tonight for the 3 day total, then last one on Wed for the full week. All efforts focused on accelerating the ramp.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 2, 2016
Musk revealed that he wasn’t expecting that many reservations:
@34thrain Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of what happened. No one at Tesla thought it would be this high before part 2 of the unveil.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 2, 2016
He was especially surprised by the number of people waiting in line at Tesla’s stores:
Token of appreciation for those who lined up coming via mail. Thought maybe 20-30 people per store would line up, not 800. Gifts on order.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 2, 2016
According to the following tweet, it looks like one of the gifts is a scale down Model 3:

Musk also said that Tesla will expand to India before the start of Model 3 production and that the new wheels unveiled with the prototypes will make it to production.
