To meet increasing market demand, lithium-ion battery resource recovery specialists Li-Cycle has announced plans to increase the processing capacity of an upcoming New York facility by 40%. In addition to expanding its US battery recycling footprint, Li-Cycle has also entered into a letter of intent with LG to create a closed-loop battery ecosystem.

Its international “Battery Innovation Contest” (BIC) will be hosted by LG Energy Solution with open entries through September. The contest is open to all topics pertaining to batteries, and the winner will receive a prize up to $150,000 annually for continued R&D.

Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution have announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Indonesia to manufacture BEV batteries in the country through a new joint venture (JV). As part of the JV, Hyundai and LG will invest a total of $1.1 billion in the construction of a battery plant in Karawang, near the country’s capital of Jakarta.
