The Pope receives a free all-electric Chevy Bolt EV/Ampera E

Earlier this year, we reported on the Pope being offered a free electric car. He was given the choice between a Nissan Leaf and a Tesla Model S. The Pontiff decided to go with the more modest Leaf.
Now we learn that the Pope is expanding his EV fleet with an Ampera E, the European version of the Chevy Bolt EV.

GM’s Opel to unveil the Chevy Bolt EV-based Ampera-e in Paris next month

GM announced today that its European brand, Opel, will officially unveil the Chevy Bolt EV-based Ampera-e at the Paris Motor show next month. The show starts October 1st, but automakers generally make their announcement in the week before the show officially opens to the public.

The Opel Ampera-e will reportedly be built alongside the Chevy Bolt in the US

Last week we reported on GM CEO Mary Barra announcing that the company’s European brand Opel will launch a version of the all-electric Bolt in Europe. Now we learn through a report from a German magazine (via Auto News) that the European version of the Bolt, the Opel Ampera-e, will be built alongside the Bolt in the US.

GM’s Opel will officially launch the all-electric Bolt-based ‘Ampera-e’ in Europe next year

GM Chairman & CEO Mary Barra announced this week that the company’s European brand Opel will launch a version of the all-electric Bolt. The new vehicle will be called ‘Ampera-e’, keeping up with the automaker’s naming scheme since the Volt is called the Ampera in Europe.
