With car bloat so prevalent on US roads these days, you’d be hard-pressed to find a compact car in any typical parking lot. But if everyone is arming up with SUVs, then I’ll just have to go even bigger with my own double-decker bus. Since a 9,000 lb. Hummer has somehow become an acceptable way to get the groceries, then what could be wrong with driving a two-story bus? And as an added bonus, this might just be the tallest vehicle I’ve ever featured as part of this Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week series!

Most of the fun and funky vehicles I manage to dredge up for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week are big on weirdness but short on power. This time, that seems to be reversed, as this electric race car is more wild than weird and comes with some seriously impressive performance.

One of the best parts of scouring the depths of Alibaba is finding all these fun-looking electric vehicles that no one seems to build anywhere else. While this is normally an adventure in window-shopping, this week’s find for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week really makes me want to own one of these electric battle tanks.

As far as strange finds go, we’ve managed to gather a pile of peculiar vehicles over the years for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column. Our loyal and brave readers have joined us in investigating everything from a tiny Pepto Bismol-pink electric car to an inflatable electric jet ski. But we may have just out-weirded ourselves this time with what appears to be an electric popemobile!

One of the cool things about window shopping through China’s largest online mall is that you find some weirdly cheap yet impressive-looking things. And that’s exactly what we’ve got in store for this week’s Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column. If you’re a fan of vintage automotive culture, well then, prepare to be horrified at this Chinese knockoff of a car. But if you just like looking at cool stuff on wheels, then do I have something fun to show you!

Most of the fun and oddly-shaped electric vehicles we’ve found for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column have been rather slow, urban-style vehicles. That’s true whether it’s a tiger-shaped bus or a Cinderella carriage. But this supercheap electric car somehow got an extra serving of power before it left the factory, helping it achieve highway speeds.

If you want a real Mercedes G-Wagon to show everyone that you’ve got more money than time spent off-road, go for it. But if you have neither money nor time off-road, then I’ve got a quirky little alternative for you. Behold, the Chinese electric knockoff of a G-Wagon!

Compared to many of the funky-looking EVs we find for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column, today’s entry is dangerously close to being almost normal. In fact, it actually is fairly normal in China, where smaller and less expensive EVs are quite common.

A big part of the fun of finding vehicles for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column comes from all of the interesting fascia designs. These uniquely Chinese vehicles often have interesting faces, giving each vehicle a unique personality. And this week, we’ve stumbled upon an electric box truck with an underbite that could give Don Rickles a run for his money.

There are some things that I never thought I’d see electrified. Cars? I get it. Bikes? Sure thing. Boats? Why not? But when it comes to lawn tools, I never thought I’d see a wheelbarrow go the way of electric hedge trimmers.

Yet that’s exactly what we’re checking out today in the latest installment of the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column.

Are you the kind of person that regularly has major demolition jobs that require a level of aggression and violence that hand tools simply can’t provide, but you also care about the environment and not destroying the only lifeboat humanity currently has? Then, boy, do I have the perfect electric bulldozer for you.

Have an old VW Beetle from the 1960s or 70s laying around and want to convert it into an electric vehicle? It’s easier than you think, and cheaper, too. An electric conversion kit from Alibaba designed specifically for classic VW Beetles can nearly get you rolling for $2,000.

China’s online shopping site Alibaba is chock-full of interesting electric vehicles with all sorts of wacky designs. And for this week’s entry in the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week, a super low-cost electric jeep like this looks just about as fun as it does oddly proportioned.

Liftgate trucks are the workhorses of the delivery industry, combining heavy-hauling capacity with the ability to load or unload at street level instead of needing a loading dock. When I occasionally buy the weird Alibaba vehicles that I’ve become known for, I always have to ask the delivery company, “Do you guys have a lift gate truck to deliver at my house?” But perhaps I’d be set if I bought my own cheap electric liftgate truck instead.

My regular readers will know that I’ve got quite a thing for golf carts. They’ll also know that I write a regular weekly column finding the coolest (and sometimes weirdest) electric vehicles in the massive online shopping catalog that is Alibaba. So when those things collide, well, that’s what we call serendipity, folks! And that’s exactly what happened this week with the discovery of this fun Jeep-like electric golf cart!

There’s something oddly endearing about miniature-sized vehicles that can still carry adults. It’s true with electric micro-cars, and apparently, it’s true with micro-boats as well. But don’t take my word for it. You can be the judge with this fun-looking mini electric jet boat!

There’s no form of wheeled transport, whether for recreation or utility use, that is safe from the sweeping wave of electrification. Those maintenance-prone, expensive and carcinogen-spewing combustion engines are on their way out in nearly every industry, not the least of which includes lawn-care. The only problem is that the larger and fancier zero-turn electric lawn mowers are usually pretty pricey when they go electric, at least until now.

For those who have had the pleasure of discovering my weekly column on weird electric vehicles from China (or for those with a less robust sense of humor who have had the displeasure of finding it), you’ll know I love trawling through Alibaba’s long list of wacky electric vehicles. I often find some real nuggets of treasure, and sometimes I even go as far as buying and importing them to the US.

Make no mistake: It’s a terrible idea that is fraught with problems. That’s why I always advise against my readers following my lead. But sometimes, just sometimes, some of you foolhardy folks will climb up and over all of my disclaimers to try your own hands at getting the weirdest wheeled vehicles that China can muster.

When it comes to all of the category-defying EVs out there that earn the infamous title of Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle the Week, the utility vehicles might just be my favorite. The ability to simultaneously be super weird and also get work done is an endearing quality, and it’s one that this week’s feature surely embodies.
