BYD surpasses Tesla in storage

BYD has overtaken Tesla to become the world’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS) integrator, capturing 13% of the global market in 2025 compared to Tesla’s 10%, according to new data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.

The shift marks the end of Tesla’s reign as the top energy storage deployer — a position it held in 2023 and 2024 — as Chinese manufacturers now dominate the rapidly growing stationary storage market.

BYD Seal 08 debuts with Blade Battery 2.0: 1,000 km range, 5-min charging, 684 hp

BYD unveiled the Seal 08, its new flagship electric sedan, at the Beijing Auto Show this weekend. The vehicle packs BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery targeting over 1,000 km of CLTC range and megawatt-level flash charging that adds 400 km of range in five minutes.

It marks the first time the Blade Battery 2.0 and flash charging combination land in a full-size sedan, positioning it as a direct challenger to higher-end electric sedans.

BYD is moving fast to establish a physical retail presence in Canada, with plans to open 20 branded dealerships within its first year in the market. The world’s largest EV maker is already scouting locations in the Greater Toronto Area.

The push comes just two months after Canada slashed its 100% tariff on Chinese-built EVs to 6.1%, a dramatic policy reversal that has unlocked the Canadian market for Chinese automakers for the first time.
