China’s EV battery developer Gotion High-Tech continues its global expansion, celebrating its latest milestone in new technologies this month. Gotion rolled its first battery pack off its new assembly line near Silicon Valley – its first product manufactured in the United States.

Weeks after battery developer Gotion-High Tech acquired a 25% stake in startup InoBat, the two companies have signed an agreement to erect a gigafactory in Europe. As a Tier 1 battery supplier to its top shareholder Volkswagen Group, Gotion will look to InoBat to help it provide the German automaker and other marques with EV batteries… but where will the joint venture set up shop?

Global EV battery developer Gotion High-Tech has announced a major investment in the state of Illinois to the tune of $2 billion to erect a new gigafactory in Manteno – about 50 miles south of Chicago. With logistic and financial support from the state, Gotion’s new plant becomes the largest investment in EV battery technology in Illinois history.

Tell us if you’ve heard this one before. A battery developer has unveiled a “breakthrough” in chemistry that will deliver some of the best range in the EV industry. Gotion High-Tech is the latest company to promise more range, but if its LMFP battery chemistry can reach production as planned, it could become a viable option to enable more affordable EVs.

Energy solutions division VinES – a member of Vingroup alongside VinFast – and Gotion Inc have broken ground on a 34.5 acre LFP battery factory designed with an annual capacity of 5 GWh. That equates to roughly 30 million battery cells per year to support future VinFast EVs.

Chinese battery cell manufacturer Gotion High-Tech confirmed that it entered into a very important deal to supply LFP battery cells to an unnamed “large US automaker” and partner with that automaker to deploy US production of LFP battery cells.
Tesla is rumored to be that unnamed automaker.
