Tesla to run public Megachargers at 3 Forum Mobility Semi depots

Tesla is going to operate public Megacharger sites at three electric truck depots it doesn’t own. Forum Mobility, one of the largest heavy-duty charging operators in the US, says Tesla will run public Megacharging at three of four new California depots it’s about to break ground on.

The move comes as Forum brings another 30 MW of heavy-duty charging online and sits on reservations for more than 330 Tesla Semis. It’s the clearest sign yet that Tesla’s Semi charging network is getting built through partners, not just Tesla-owned stations.

Tesla has launched a new “Semi Charging for Business” program that allows fleet operators and businesses to purchase and install their own Megacharger and a brand-new product called the Basecharger — a lower-power 125 kW charger designed for depot and overnight use.

The online configurator reveals a starting price of $188,000 for two Megacharger posts, excluding taxes and installation, with Tesla charging an all-inclusive fee of $0.08 per kWh for revenue-generating sites.

Tesla has updated its “Find Us” map with 64 new Megacharger locations across 15 states, giving the clearest picture yet of the charging network it is building to support the Tesla Semi.

Combined with 2 sites already operational, the map now shows 66 total locations covering major freight corridors from the West Coast to the East Coast.

When Tesla unveiled its all-electric truck, Tesla Semi, last year, it made several impressive claims about the vehicle’s specs and capabilities – leaving us to believe that it relies on significant battery improvements.

One of those impressive aspects is the ‘Megacharger’ technology, which Elon Musk claims could add “400 miles of range to a Tesla Semi in 30 minutes.”

Now we learn that the automaker is working with some of its biggest Tesla Semi reservation holders to add Megacharging stations at their facilities.
