Tesla’s all-electric SUV, the Model X, made the headlines yesterday when the company opened its online design studio for early reservation holders to configure their car, but reservations were for the “Signature Model X” which comes already loaded with options bringing the price to $132,000.
The expensive price-tag raised a lot of eyebrows, but today Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to clarify the situation and confirmed the Model X has a $5,000 price difference with the Model S for the same options.
With same options, Model X is $5k more than an S due to greater size & body complexity. Sig Series is fully loaded, hence high price.

Since the Model X will only be offered with Dual Motor all-wheel-drive and that the most basic version of the Model S with Dual Motor (70D) starts at $75,000 before any tax incentives, it is safe to assume the Model X will start at $80,000 before any option.
Tesla’s SUV, which is built on the same platform as the Model S, should start deliveries by the end of the month.
Update: Musk confirmed deliveries start September 29th at the Fremont Factory.
