Panasonic is open to increasing its investment in Tesla Gigafactory 1

With Model 3 production steadily increasing as Tesla confirmed today, Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, where Tesla and Panasonic produce the batteries for the vehicle, is going to need to keep up with the production of the critical EV component.

Panasonic now says that it is open to increasing its already large investment in Tesla Gigafactory 1 in order to support the growth.

Panasonic launches all black solar panel – KURO – for Europe

Panasonic has announced their new HIT KURO (black) solar panel. The panel sports a black backsheet and a black frame, plus it hits a 19.4% efficiency, totaling a peak production value of 325W.

The panel seems the same (or very similar) as to what was announced by Tesla and Panasonic back in April of 2017 for the US market.

Panasonic brags that of the 4 million solar panels they’ve sold in Europe – only 148 of them have been returned for warranty issues.

Panasonic considers coming onboard with a Tesla Gigafactory in China

Panasonic is currently an important part of Tesla’s first two Gigafactories; Gigafactory 1 in Nevada does battery production and Gigafactory 2 in New York handles solar panel and tile production.

Tesla says that it has several other Gigafactories planned and Panasonic says that it is now considering partnering up again with Tesla for a new Gigafactory in China.

Panasonic is ‘getting ready’ to start producing cells for solar roof at Tesla Gigafactory 2

SolarCity’s solar cell and module factory in Buffalo, now renamed Tesla Gigafactory 2 since the automaker bought the solar company, has suffered several delays.

But since Tesla brought in Panasonic to take over some of the manufacturing efforts, the plant seems to be moving quicker.

Now, the Japanese electronics giant confirmed that they are looking to move to solar cell production in the coming months and employ 300 workers by the end of the year.

Tesla to start offering regular tours of Gigafactory 1, Panasonic to hold event/tour

Tesla has been able to turn its manufacturing plants into some kind of attractions. The company offers regular tours of its Fremont factory for Tesla owners to see where their cars are coming from and it even pushed an “industrial tourism” bill that would have enabled out-of-state buyers to pick up their cars at the factory.

Now, Tesla also plans to open up Gigafactory 1 in Nevada for regular tours.

Tesla Solar Roof: Panasonic is hiring 300 workers for the production of solar cells

Tesla Gigafactory 2, a factory in Buffalo that Tesla took over after the acquisition of SolarCity, is about to start production of the company new solar roof tiles.

Like at Gigafactory 1 for battery production in Nevada, Tesla partnered with Panasonic to produce the cells and now the company is looking to hire as many as 300 workers as it is about to start production.

Panasonic inaugurates electric vehicle battery factory in China

Panasonic unveiled today its latest battery manufacturing facility and first in China. The ~$400 million plant, which was first announced in 2015, will manufacture battery cells for the growing electric vehicle market in China.

The Japanese electronics giant claims that the projected annual capacity will support the production of “around 200,000 electric vehicles”.
