After mostly flat sales during the first half of the year, Tesla experienced a 52% quarterly increased between the second quarter and the third ended in September by delivering 1,345 Model S units for a total of 3,025 so far in 2015. Tesla rarely discloses sales by segment, but CEO Elon Musk made an exception during a recent visit in China and later Tesla spokesperson Gary Tao confirmed the numbers.
China recently became the biggest auto market in the world and automakers are now spending a lot of resources trying to figure out how to perform in the country. Tesla had a rough start and even laid-off some staffs early in the year to change its strategy in the country, but now it seems to be paying off based on the recent increase in deliveries. The company will have to repeat similar quarterly growth in China during the fourth quarter in order to achieve their 50,000 to 55,000 worldwide delivery guidance for 2015.
Tesla is also seeing significant growth in European markets, which now account for more Model S sales than North America.
