Kia’s sporty EV9 GT electric SUV spotted out in public ahead of its official debut [Video]

With “enormous power,” the Kia EV9 GT builds on the already impressive electric SUV with high-performance upgrades. Kia’s EV9 GT was spotted out in the wild this week ahead of its official launch. Check it out in the video below.

After launching the EV9 in Korea last June, the electric SUV is rolling out in new global markets. It hit the US market last December with starting prices under $55,000.

Through the first half of 2024, Kia sold 9,671 EV9s in the US. After production kicked off in Georgia in May, Kia expects the momentum to continue. With the potential $7,500 federal tax credit, EV9 prices fall to as low as $48,995 (including destination).

Kia confirmed a new trim will join the lineup in January 2025. The EV9 GT will have “enormous power” with a 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/hr) time in under 4 seconds.

The EV9 GT will feature a dual-motor AWD powertrain for faster acceleration. It will also include a reinforced suspension and electronic braking for stability at high speeds.

You can see the new EV9 GT will be unique from the GT-Line trim, with a modified front bumper for a more aggressive design. Although the bumper is also expected to be upgraded, you can’t see it behind the camouflage.

At what point do these become unreasonable? You can move almost 6,000lbs from a dead stop to 62mph in 3.4 seconds. The hummer EV is above 9,000lbs and can do it in 3 seconds. It's kind of scary if someone isn't paying attention.

The new high-performance SUV will follow the EV6 GT, Kia’s most powerful vehicle ever made. Kia’s EV6 GT packs 576 hp for a 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.4 seconds.

Kia put the sporty EV up against a Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan EVO to prove its power, beating both off the line. An upgraded EV6 was spotted testing in May. Can we expect even more power?

The 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line starts at $73,900 (including destination fee), so the more powerful GT trim is expected to start at a higher price point.

What do you think? Would you buy Kia’s EV9 GT for around $80,000? Let us know in the comments below.
