Tesla owner says Autopilot’s side collision avoidance system prevented highway accident caught on dashcam

tesla-autopilot-avoids-collision-highway

While news outlets are quick to jump on the opportunity to report on accidents involving Tesla’s Autopilot system, the Autopilot helping prevent accidents is actually a more common occurrence and it doesn’t get nearly as much attention.

Of course, there’s no wreckage to grab the eye and therefore, it rarely reaches the media’s standard of sensationalism, but it helps when it is caught on a dashcam. After a near miss on the highway today in California, a Tesla Model S owner credited the Autopilot in helping avoid an accident.

GM announces Bolt EV’s ‘one pedal’ driving with regenerative braking

Chevy bolt EV energy screen

Today, GM officially announced the Bolt EV’s capacity for ‘one pedal’ driving with customizable regenerative braking settings. While the capacity to drive only or mostly using the accelerator pedal, commonly known as the gas pedal, is not entirely new in electric vehicles, GM is pushing the idea a little further in the Bolt EV with different driving modes to get the most out of the experience.

Regenerative braking, the ability to recoup energy during deceleration, is one of the coolest things about electric vehicles because it offers so many advantages. It’s great from an energy standpoint since you get energy from deceleration, which would generally be lost from friction on  your brake pads, but consequently, you are also preserving your mechanical brakes.

AAA says that its emergency electric vehicle charging trucks served “thousands” of EVs without power

AAA charging truck

AAA has a little-known program for which it equipped trucks with Level 2 AC chargers, and even some with a CHAdeMO DC fast charger powered by onboard generators, in order to help electric vehicle drivers stranded without power.

The service, which is only offered in a few of AAA’s markets, aimed at addressing the often talked about issues with “range anxiety”, but as most EV drivers know, range anxiety doesn’t really exist with vigilant power management. Nonetheless, the service has seen “thousands” of service calls according to AAA.

Listen to the spaceship-like sound of the all-electric Formula E’s new vehicles

Formula E FF

Of course, sound doesn’t travel in space, but I’m talking about the sci-fi representation of “spaceship sounds”. While some petrol-heads can only enjoy the roar of an engine, a lot of race fans are appreciating the much quieter all-electric Formula E.

The noise levels are approximately 80 dB, which is actually a little higher than the average gas-powered car, but much lower than the Formula One’s 128 dB noise level. And the sounds are pretty cool too.
