Faraday Future breaks ground and reveals the details of its $1 billion EV factory

Electric vehicle startup Faraday Future, also known as FF, is moving forward with its $1 billion factory in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The company is holding an official ground-breaking ceremony with state officials today – you can watch the stream below.

FF also released several new details about the factory and its features, as well as the concept rendering seen above.

The building will cover 3 million square foot on 900-acre land of which FF recently finalized the purchase. The automaker expects the development of the ambitious project will create approximately 4,500 direct jobs over a 10-year period.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval approved a deal for the state to give the company $215 million in tax credits and abatements, and publicly finance $120 million in infrastructure improvements at the industrial park in North Las Vegas, where the factory will be built.

Earlier this year, Nevada Treasurer Dan Schwartz was questioning Faraday’s financial health after inquiries and a visit to China, but the company has since addressed Schawartz concerns and put bonds to secure the state’s investment.

Governor Sandoval, North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee and Steve Hill of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, among other officials, are now scheduled to attend today’s ceremony.

In a press release, Faraday’s Global Vice President of Manufacturing, Dag Reckhorn, commented on today’s announcement:

“We are moving extremely quickly for a project of this size. Our aim is to complete a program that would normally take four years and do it in half the time.”

Prior to leading FF’s manufacturing effort, Reckhorn has been Director of Model S Manufacturing at Tesla from 2009 to 2013.

In the same press release, FF describes some of the features of its future factory:

Like FF products, the production facility will be connected, futuristic looking and the environmentally conscious.

Materials Used in Construction

The facility will use the latest materials in the construction process and aim to exceed standards set forth by the industry. FF is committed to environmentally friendly construction practices and has procedures in place to ensure all of its contractors follow dust control regulatory standards.

Materials for the facility structure would include the use of the latest glass, steel, LED lighting and water-based paints.

The company will harvest a combination of wind, solar and geo-thermal energies over time together with its local energy provider to help meet its clean energy goals.

Design of the Building

FF is leveraging its design experience and talents into the creation of the facility. Our user-centric approach is reflected in the futuristic aspects of the building with the use of glass panels that promote a more open air concept. This is unprecedented in modern automobile factories that are conventionally hidden behind walls.

The facility’s exterior will be a clear calling card of the FF look and feel from the air and from the highway encouraging passers by to visit and see the latest in mobility manufacturing. The interior will offer ergonomically and economically adaptable workspaces in open, color-coordinated environments throughout that integrate with the overall FF culture.

Courtyards and social spaces will be available and contribute to the collaborative work environment that FF is known for.

What’s Inside

Like FF’s overall approach, adaptability and flexibility will be core elements at the facility.

FF intends to use the latest in advanced manufacturing equipment in the production of its vehicles which will include high levels of robotic automation, advance laser measurement systems, vision systems, autonomous material delivery, cutting edge aluminum joining technologies and advance coating technologies.

The factory operations will cover body assembly, paint operations, powertrain & battery pack assembly and final vehicle assembly.

Vehicle Production

FF will use the facility to manufacturer its premium electric vehicles.

The FF facility will utilize the company’s unique Variable Platform Architecture (VPA) which is an adaptable modular platform made up of battery strings that can be removed or added to alter the wheelbase. Adding or subtracting the strings modifies the vehicle’s potential weight, battery efficiency and travel distance achieving an even faster entry into nearly any new vehicle segment.

It’s kind of similar to CEs. But now they are talking about the intricacies of their factory. Car?

At The CES this year FF showcased a one seater non functioning prototype. With all the hype those that went were considerably disappointed. Now their hyping their factory but have yet to even give a real glimpse of what they are trying to build. All their touted Ex Tesla employees had positions with other companies between the time of departure from Tesla and started with FF. That means one of two things, they couldn’t handle the pressure of working for Tesla or they were fired.

We need to see a realistic working car before anyone believes Faraday. This could all just be a scam to defraud investors.

They have too much money. The words they talk are sound. They’ve hired to many of the right people. A huckster would do a lot less and spend more time begging. We also know where they live, so the SEC/FBI can arrest any charlatans.

        not SEC. I mean FTC

    eh?
FF will use the facility to manufacturer its premium electric vehicles.

either there was no proof reading in the post or the press release was written by a second grader.

Other than that this bears all the hallmarks of a certain car that was mostly hot air, built in Belfast and starred in a few films.
Show us real vehicles FF or this may well be a huge scam.
