A look at Tesla Model S deliveries in Europe – November 2015

Tesla needs to deliver a record-breaking ~17,000 units in the last quarter of the year to achieve the low-end of its 2015 delivery guidance of  50,000-55,000 vehicles. Since the company now sells more cars in Europe than in North America or Asia, Model S deliveries in European markets are more important than ever.

Here’s our November 2015 look at Model S deliveries based on registration data in Tesla’s most important European markets:

Since Tesla doesn’t publish monthly sale numbers or breakdown any data by segment, we have to rely on registration data to get an idea of deliveries for the Model S. European countries offer the most sensible data readily available.

It is not necessarily a perfect representation of Tesla deliveries in each country, but based on the few times Tesla confirmed deliveries in a specific country (like in Denmark in October for example), the registration data proved to be very accurate.

Speaking of Denmark, the country certainly stands out in November:

Buyers are pulling the trigger before the phasing out of tax breaks for electric vehicle in the country starting in 2016. Tesla confirmed having ordered 2,500 license plates in anticipation of the surge in demand and with only 113 Model S’s registered in October, November is really the first month where we can clearly see the demand increase.

If one country can make a significant difference for Tesla to achieve its fourth quarter guidance, it’s Denmark:Tesla’s sales in Norway are down 2.7% compared to the same period last year. Yet the country is still Tesla’s biggest market in Europe by volume with more than twice as many deliveries so far this year than the Netherlands, which comes in second place (3,666 units vs 1,613 units):Deliveries in the Netherlands are up 44% in 2015, but Tesla will to deliver an impressive month to month increase in December if the company wants to maintain its growth for the year. Tesla delivered 352 Model S’s in December 2014, while it delivered 157 units last month:If you want more Tesla Motors and electric vehicle news, make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Google+ to get our latest articles.
