I thought that Mercedes’ recently unveiled IAA concept was weird-looking, but it has nothing on the German automaker’s new “Vision Tokyo” which it introduced today at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.
The concept is equipped with “fuel cell-powered electric drive system”, which consists of an electric motor powered by both a battery pack and pressure tanks of hydrogen with fuel cells.The company claims a total range of 600 miles (980 km): 118 miles (190 km) on the battery pack and 482 miles (780 km) on hydrogen.
The battery pack can be charged contactlessly via induction.
Although the company never mentions the word “minivan” in the release of the concept, I don’t see a better category for it – though I would emphasis “mini” (length/width/height: 4803/2100/1600 mm – 189/83/63 inches). Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG:
“The Mercedes-Benz Vision Tokyo embodies the concept of an automotive lounge for a future generation of megacities. The purity and sensuality of the Vision Tokyo’s styling defines a new interpretation of modern luxury from Mercedes-Benz.”
“Automotive lounge” is apparently what they are going for…
