While Toyota is preparing to launch the Hilux BEV in the UK, another Japanese electric pickup is now on sale. The Isuzu D-MAX EV can tow over 7,700 lbs, wade through close to 24″ (600 mm) of water, and it even has a dedicated Rough Terrain Mode for off-roading. However, it’s not cheap.
Isuzu launches the D-Max EV pickup for the UK
After revealing the left-hand-drive D-Max EV for Europe last year, Isuzu said it would begin production of the right-hand-drive model for the UK, with sales following in early 2026.
Isuzu officially launched the D-Max EV as a right-hand-drive model, calling it “the first fully electric pickup in the UK to provide over 1-tonne payload, 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and permanent All Wheel Drive.”
The EV pickup is powered by a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and dual electric motors, providing a combined 200 hp (149.3 kW), 347.6 Nm of torque, and a WLTP driving range of 163.2 miles. In the city, the D-Max EV offers a WLTP driving range of 223.9 miles.
With instant torque, a ground clearance of 210 mm (8.2″), and the ability to plow through up to 600 mm (23.6″) of water, the D-Max EV is built for off-roading.

The added Rough Terrain Mode is an electric traction control system that optimizes settings for improved grip on uneven or slippery terrain.
Based on the latest D-Max strengthened ladder chassis with a new De-Dion semi-independent suspension system, the cabin offers up to a 10% reduction in noise and vibration.

The Isuzu D-MAX EV is available in Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations with eDL40 and eV-Cross trims.
Alongside Rough Terrain Mode, other standard features include dual-zone climate control, heated seats, front and rear parking sensors, a 7″ driver display, plus an eight-year 125,000-mile battery warranty.
Prices start at £59,995 ($81,200) for the base D-Max eDL40 extended cab variant, not including VAT. The D-Max eDL40 Double Cab starts at £60,995 ($82,500), while the D-Max eV-Cross is priced from £62,495 ($84,500).

“The new Isuzu D-Max EV arrives in the UK, and for the first time in its segment provides the option of a fully electric pick-up with class-leading commercial capabilities,” Alan Able, Managing Director of Isuzu UK, said. Deliveries in the UK will begin in May 2026.
While Isuzu claims it’s the first electric pickup with class-leading capabilities in the UK, a few all-electric trucks are already on sale.
The Maxus T90EV and eTerron 9 are currently on sale, starting at £49,950 ($67,500) and about £54,700 ($70,000), respectively.
Toyota is also set to open orders for the all-electric Hilux BEV pickup in June 2026, which is expected to start at around £50,000 ($67,700) to £60,000 ($81,200).
