The ability to tap into the energy locked inside your car’s battery to power tools, lights, campground gear, and essential home appliances during an outage has quickly become one of the most desirable EV features.
The problem? Many electric vehicles already on the road – including millions of Teslas (Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y)! – were never sold with native vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. The new D2 power adapter from WETOX changes all that, using the car’s native charge port and turning more EVs into portable power stations.
WETOX might be a new name to Western EV buyers, but the company has been developing V2L adapters for over four years, building deep expertise in the growing vehicle-to-everything (V2X) market through its established GB/T adapters for Teslas, NIOs, and other EVs. Leveraging this mature supply chain, their newest product, the D2, is a next-generation adapter specially developed for North American and European markets—designed to bring portable V2L capability to Tesla, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and other EVs that didn’t originally ship with bidirectional power baked in.
The company is using Kickstarter as a launch platform for the D2 adapter, with the campaign serving as both an early-access sales channel and a way to introduce the brand to a broader Western audience. The campaign is currently underway and gaining traction, with backers

Safety is standard
IPX5 waterproof design; via WETOX.
WETOX builds safety into the D2’s design from the start, and the adapter’s custom-molded internal structure ensures every part fits perfectly for superior stability, safety, and the sort of tight seals required to achieve an impressive IPX5 waterproof rating – but they didn’t stop there. WETOX developed a “full-chain” waterproof solution, ensuring that every part from the connector and main unit (IPX5) to the 10 ft (3m) extension power strip (IPX6) is safe for use, even in heavy rain.
Water isn’t the only safety hazard V2L adapters face, however. Many have a fatal flaw: they trigger Tesla’s battery heating mechanism.
“You might waste 5% of your battery just boiling a kettle, or suffer from phantom drain even with no appliances running – dragging the overall energy efficiency down to a miserable 52%,” reads the official Kickstarter copy. “The WETOX D2 solves this. Our advanced software protocol completely bypasses the vehicle’s heating trigger. You only consume the power your devices actually draw. No unnecessary noise, no phantom drain.”
To back up those claims, WETOX offers a global product insurance plan that not only covers standard accidental damage to the D2 (including the adapter, the vehicle, personnel, and connected appliances), but explicitly includes coverage against voiding your EV’s warranty.
WETOX underscored their confidence in the D2 recorded a 13-hour, uncut, one-take stress test and put it on YouTube, running a continuous, 3600W max load and drawing the car’s battery from 93% down to 19%. At the same time, the WETOX D2 proved to be as much as 40% more efficient than the other V2L adapter brands on the market. (!)
Longest Tesla V2L test EVER
Safety is obviously the first hurdle when tapping into the high-voltage battery pack of a modern EV, but compatibility and convenience are close behind.
To tackle both, WETOX avoided off-the-shelf third-party SECC modules and instead fully mastered and proprietary-engineered the low-level code for the ISO 15118 and DIN 70121 protocol stacks. Fully owning the source code allowed WETOX to custom-design the circuit board for a significantly smaller footprint, while giving engineers deep control over battery handshake messaging to optimize vehicle-to-load interactions. This complete mastery over the underlying protocol stack also enables WETOX to continuously adapt and tune software protocols for new vehicles—with plans to unlock V2L compatibility for a new EV model every quarter, delivered seamlessly to existing owners via over-the-air (OTA) updates.
While vehicle limitations currently cap the D2 at ISO 15118-2, WETOX is already future-proofing its technology, earning the world’s first ISO 15118-20 certification report from SGS, a milestone that marks a key step forward in pushing V2X communication toward standardized, large-scale commercialization.

WETOX’ app solves for the convenience piece, allowing EV owners to customize discharge limits, set power-off timers, and access full system diagnostics directly from your smartphone.
Owners can use the app to set how much of the vehicle’s battery they are willing to use, monitor the system, and configure the adapter for different situations, whether that’s powering tools at a job site, running equipment during a camping trip, or keeping essential appliances running when conventional power isn’t available. The D2 is also designed for a broad range of regional charging standards. WETOX’s Kickstarter campaign includes NACS, CCS1, and CCS2 variants, opening the door to V2L applications across North America, Europe, and other markets.
WETOX’ Kickstarter campaign is set to run through August 30th, and includes NACS, CCS1, and CCS2 variants designed to deliver V2L power to a variety of regional markets. If you can’t wait, search “WETOX” on the App Store or Google Play to download and experience the app now, or by visiting WETOX’ official website.
You can watch WETOX’ official Tesla V2L adapter videos, below – and remember that all the safety and convenience features shown on the Tesla D2 for the NACS connector are also there for your Ford Mustang Mach-E with CCS connector, and more vehicle compatibility will be announced on the official WETOX website in the future.

For EV owners who have wanted to turn their car into a portable power station but didn’t want to buy a new vehicle just to get factory-installed V2L, that’s perhaps the biggest appeal of the D2: you may already have the battery — WETOX is giving you another way to use it.
Don’t miss the chance to secure your WETOX D2 at a massive Early Bird discount before the
campaign ends on August 30th. Head over to the Kickstarter page today. You can find WETOX on Twitter/X @wetox_official, and on Facebook @WETOX.
