Porsche Cayenne EV caught testing hints at larger, bolder big brother to the Macan

A new all-electric Porsche is on its way. The Porsche Cayenne EV was caught testing in the Alps ahead of its official debut. From the first look, the new Porsche Cayenne EV looks almost identical to the new Macan EV. You can see the new electric SUV racing uphill, towing trailer a trailer, and ripping around corners during testing. Check out the video below to see for yourself.

The fully electric Cayenne is expected to be the fourth EV to join the luxury automaker’s lineup.

After launching the Taycan in 2019, Porsche’s first all-electric sports car received a major refresh earlier this year with more range, faster charging, and higher performance than ever before.

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is the brand’s fastest street-legal car yet. With 1,092 hp, good for a 0 to 60 mph sprint in 2.1 secs, the performance EV has already stolen several records from Tesla’s Model S Plaid.

Porsche introduced its second electric vehicle, the Macan EV, in January. Based on the new PPE platform, the Porsche Macan EV boasts up to 630 hp (Turbo) and 381 miles (613 km) WLTP range.

CEO Oliver Blume said just over a month later that the electric Macan racked up 10,000 orders. Blume added, “And these customers haven’t even been able to drive the car yet.”

Afer kicking off Macan EV production last month, another all-electric Porsche was spotted testing this week.

Porsche Cayenne EV spotted testing in the Alps

The long-awaited Porsche Cayenne EV was finally spotted this week. From the first look, the electric SUV appears to be Macan EV’s big brother we had expected.

After launching the Macan, the company said it’s “still very much a Porsche” in design, performance, and dynamics. It looks like the Cayenne EV will follow suit.

The video from CarSpyMedia shows a Porsche Cayenne EV prototype towing a trailer through the mountains. From what’s shown, the electric SUV easily handles the steep curves.

Despite the camo, some features peek through, like active cooling air flaps, like on the new 911 Carrera GTS, the first street-legal hybrid 911.

The electric Cayenne will ride on the same PPE platform used for the Macan EV and Audi Q6 e-tron. Although Porsche has yet to announce specs, it’s expected to be similar to the Macan. The Macan EV Turbo offers up to 630 hp and 833 lb-ft of torque for a 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.3 secs.

Porsche will begin Macan EV deliveries later this year. The starting price for the Macan 4 is $78,800, while the MSRP for the Macan Turbo is $105,300.

Ahead of the Cayenne, Porsche will launch an electric 718 model (which has also been spotted testing). It’s expected to debut before the end of 2024, with deliveries in 2025. The Cayenne EV is expected to debut in 2026.

According to Blume, Porsche is also expanding “upward” with an ultra-luxury electric SUV to sit above the Cayenne. Porsche is aiming for 80% of deliveries to be electric by 2030.
