No more renders and photoshopped images. Fisker unveiled an actual prototype of his new electric car, the EMotion, ahead of the official unveiling event tomorrow.
The new electric car startup also started taking reservations with $2,000 deposits for the $130,000 premium sedan.
As we recently reported in our look at Fisker’s unbelievable claims about its upcoming all-electric car with ‘over 400 miles of range’ & ‘9-minute charging’, we have our doubts about the EMotion.
Nonetheless, we are glad to see that the vehicle doesn’t only exist on paper, but they have an actual prototype, which is not always the case with new startups.
CEO Henrik Fisker took to Twitter this week to show the first prototype in San Francisco:

Those familiar with the design of the original Fisker Karma and now the Revero, being made by Karma Automotive, which was born out of the bankruptcy of Fisker’s previous electric car venture, will recognize Fisker’s signature forms.
Yesterday, they also posted a more detailed video of the vehicle on their website:
On paper, it looks like the EMotion is what Karma’s Revero could be as an all-electric vehicle instead of a plug-in hybrid.
The main difference being that Karma now started delivering the Revero earlier this month, while Fisker’s new venture is still in the early stages of development.
They recently changed their ambitious goal to deliver the vehicle using a new hybrid supercapacitor technology and instead decided to stick to more traditional Li-ion batteries. They hope it would enable them to launch the vehicle in 2019, but it remains to be seen.
Other electric vehicle startups, like Faraday Future and Lucid Motors, have similar timelines to launch performance electric cars in the same price range, but bringing them to production is the biggest challenge.
