Karma Automotive, formerly Fisker Automotive, had a rough few years since the bankruptcy back in 2013. The company’s assets were purchased by the Wanxiang Group, a Chinese auto part conglomerate, as well as the assets of its battery supplier A123. The group has since been heavily investing back in the company in the hope of relaunching the Karma, Fisker’s first vehicle.
They have done it this week with a new TV spot to reintroduce the Karma, now the Revero, as they are about to start their first deliveries.
Karma launched an online configurator for the vehicle and now it aims to gather a backlog in order to deliver around 1,000 units this year.
The ad played on CBS Sunday, April 30, during the 2017 U.S. Open Polo Championship.
Jim Taylor, Karma Chief Revenue Officer, said in a release about the TV spot:
“The spot marks the rebirth of one of the most celebrated silhouettes in automotive history. We felt this moment in time deserved to be recognized.”
As you will see, Karma is clearly presenting the Revero as an ultra-luxury vehicle for the wealthy in the ad. Here’s the video:
The plug-in hybrid vehicle starts at $130,000. The company predicts an all-electric range of about 50 miles on the 21.4 kWh LiFePO battery pack mounted in the center of the vehicle – like in the original Fisker Karma. The gas engine can bring the range up to about 300 miles.
The Revero can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and it features a software-limited top speed of 125 mph.
And the company surprised some when it announced the specs last year. Karma is adding the capability for DC fast-charging up to 40 kW. The automaker says that it bring the State Of Charge to 80% in 24 minutes on 480 V at 110 amps, which is fairly rare with plug-in hybrids.
It will be interesting to see if they can do better than the original Fisker Automotive which ended up delivering only just over 2,000 Karma sedans. We will keep an eye on them in the coming months.
