A video uploaded to Youtube during the weekend shows a Model X being tested near the Tesla headquarters in Palo Alto. The video gives us a rare glimpse of the Model X’s interior. On rare occasions, Tesla has been showing a Model X prototype at events. This particular model has been presumably the same for the past 2 years, first showed at Tesla’s store in Palo Alto in late 2013 and more recently at the Panasonic booth at CES 2015.
This Model X, compared to the Model S, had an updated interior with the 17 inch touchscreen sticking out of the dashboard and what appeared to be an integrated center console. The steering wheel had touchscreens instead of the physical buttons it is known to have in the Model S.
Here’s a picture of the Model X prototype from CES 2015:
From what we can see in the short video, the Model X’s interior is now a lot closer to what Tesla is already producing in the Model S, if not exactly the same. Here is the Mode S’ dashboard:
During the conference call discussing Tesla’s Q1 financial results last week, Tesla confirmed they are currently operating a “captive fleet of hundreds” of Model X release candidates. The vehicle in the video is presumably one of these release candidate and therefore the final version should be closer to the recent video than what we saw with the prototype presented at CES.
