Another automotive designer, Rain Prisk Designs, released renderings of a wagon version of the Tesla Model S. To be clear, the design is from an independent artist unaffiliated with Tesla and as far as we know, Tesla has no plan to make a station wagon any time soon.
Even though it’s not coming soon, if ever, it’s still an interesting design.
Oversized wheels aside, I think Rain Prisk did a great job with the picture, which beautifully illustrates how well the sedan’s design transfers to a station wagon design.
The idea is not new and a popular one with independent rendering artists since the release of the Model S. Back in 2012, Theophilus Chin – the same designer who recently released Model 3 renderings, which confused some people – published a series of pictures of a Model S wagon:
Aesthetics aside, the main advantage would be a larger cargo space, but with the Model S having the most cargo space out of any sedan, it’s kind of like fixing a non-existent problem. It might not be worth the range loss due to the added weight and worst aerodynamic performance.
What do you guys think?

Prefer the sedan. Wagons are ugly..
I too prefer the sedan, but I think the S doesnt look bad as a wagon.
I love wagons, or Kombis as we call them in Germany. Model S wagon looks good.
Depending on range loss, I’d still prefer the sedan though.
Another german here. I like the 2012 rendering more than the new one, would even say I’d prefer it over the sedan, even with a range loss. Since Kombis are all over the place in germany, many more than sedans, I really hope to see a model S wagon in the future. Sales would be pretty high I guess.
Doesn’t look bad, but how much space are you really gaining? Theres a ton of cargo room in a Model S, it’s practically a wagon now. I feel like the people that would be in the market for this, would rather have the Model X.
Model S wagon/combi would have more storage space for long items thanks to foldable 2nd row seats. Even Model S has more space for long items than Model X, just not so high (tall).
Wagons are sick. Sedans are boring.
In Europe, we love hatchbacks and station wagons. Sedans play a very small role here. Anyway, I think the Model S isn’t a pure sedan, since the trunk is not really separated from the passenger’s compartment.
Good point. though I think it is becoming more popular with sedans too.
More options always a good thing! EvPal
YES! OH HELL YES ! M EFFIN YES !
Very nice…more space with style
i like sporty wagons. prefer the look of the Audi A6 Sportback though. this Model S wagon has a rear that’s a bit too angled in contrast to the very soft nose of the car. but it’s still a really good adaptation – i’m impressed.
I love it! Always been a wagon lover!
Love it , big like for wagon ! wait to see in reality 🙂
Send this to Elon Musk immediately!
This is a bulleyes . The look of this Tesla is amazing !!!!!! If possible go forward in this way.
I would’like a wagon model like this soon!!!
Amazing!
Idiotic. The Model X already fills any role this could possibly hope to fill. This “concept” is simply an attempt to cash in on Tesla’s success.
Right. SUVs and station wagons are exactly the same thing. I wonder why there are still automakers bothering with the latter.
Note: the preceding text contains sarcasm.
Yes, that’s what I’m looking for, more space, more power and that all with electric power, absolutely great. Love it 🙂
appearance is an updated Dodge Magnum. Aerodynamics should be good.
I love the looks of this wagon. If it could drive me across the country, I’d buy one….assuming I could afford it.
Love the wagon, very elegant and quite useful.
Just wow, really great look!
Nice work on the design. If i have to choose between the sedan or this wagon, I take the wagon…
I’d put a ring on it
It is not “fixing a non-existent problem”, that is limited thinking. It is adding flexibility to the Tesla line; not everyone needs the extra space, but for those who do, this would be giving them an option to get into a Tesla vs a gas wagon or van. I really like the way it looks too.
please make one ,or many ,i want one so bad ,this is the car of the futur
I am a product designer and I strongly believe that Tesla made a big mistake with the falcon wing doors on the model X. Not being able to carry anything on the roof is a big handicap for a car targeting active people. No skis, no bike, no roof box, no canoe, no kayak, nothing… Bad design choice. The falcon wing is an ego trip decision not based on customer real needs.
There is a way to carry things on the roof, suction cups.http://electrek.co/2015/10/03/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-tweetstorms-model-x-details-and-upcoming-model-y-vehicle-w-s-3-x-y-falcon-wing-doors/
But its a poor decision as it damages aerodynamics significantly.. Better to have a small trailer/hitch behind. Part of designing a product is not giving people what they want but design a product that invites for it to be used the right way.
Looks amazing!!!
Callaway thinks a wagon is more aerodynamic on a corvette ctvnews.ca/autos/callaway-corvette-aerowagon-conversion-improves-cargo-space-and-aerodynamics-1.2847955
With the optional jump seats, the wagon would allow taller people to use them. Also, the rear head room in the sedan is pretty limited and the silly little headrests unusable. The extra height the extended roof gives on this wagon design would solve that, too. All in all, I think it a very handsome and practical idea.
Love the idea of a Tesla wagon.
What is really interesting: Could the rear hatch be removed and a custom one made – which has the shape to make the car into a station wagon? Lights, license plate and some sensors – what else is in the hatch?
As usually – it’s all about money. Someone has to come up with the idea. I think such a conversion would sell well in Europe, especially Northern Europe.
Now add a towing hook to that conversion, and the segment of potential buyers would increase immensely.
I want an EV with a towing hook – but I don’t appreciate the complexity of the Model X falcon doors. And the glass is nice, but eventually the insurance companies will get tired of replacing ~3000 USD glass sections.
