Volkswagen opens orders for the lower-priced ID. Cross, starting at about $31,000

Volkswagen opened orders for the entry-level ID. Cross with the 37 kWh battery, starting at about $31,000 (€27,995).

Volkswagen ID. Cross with 37 kWh battery goes on sale

The ID. Cross is a “true Volkswagen,” the brand’s CEO Thomas Schäfer said last month after the electric SUV entered production at its Pamplona, Spain, plant.

As the electric equivalent of its best-selling T-Cross, Schäfer said the ID. Cross is “modern, reliable, and above, all affordable.” It follows the ID. Polo as the first electric SUV from its new entry-level EV lineup.

As promised, Volkswagen opened orders for the entry-level ID. Cross Trend this week, starting at €27,995 in Germany, including VAT, or about $31,500.

The new variant uses a 37 kWh battery and a 114 hp (85 kW) electric motor, providing a WLTP range of up to 201 miles (324 km).

Volkswagen opened orders for the ID. Cross with the larger 52 kWh battery in July, with a WLTP range of up to 265 miles (427 km).

It’s based on the same MEB+ platform as the ID. Polo. The VW ID. Cross is now available with two battery packs: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack and a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) pack, and three variants:

  • VW ID. Cross Trend:
standard with 85 kW (114 hp) and 37‑kWh battery
  • VW ID. Cross Life and ID. Cross Style:
standard with 99 kW (132 hp) and 37‑kWh battery
  • VW ID. Cross Life and ID. Cross Style:
optional with 155 kW (207 hp) and 52‑kWh battery

With DC fast charging up to 90 kW, the smaller 37 kWh battery can charge from 10% to 80% in about 23 minutes. The 52 kWh battery takes around 24 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% with DC fast charging up to 105 kW.

Inside, the ID. Cross adopts VW’s new interior digital cockpit design. The setup includes a 10.25″ “Digital Cockpit Pro” instrument display and a 12.9″ center infotainment screen.

Like the ID. Polo and ID. Tiguan, the electric SUV features a new Retro Display mode that turns the instrument panel into a throwback theme reminiscent of the first-gen Golf 1.

The electric version is 4,161 mm long, 1,794 mm wide, and 1,588 mm high, with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, or about the size of the gas-powered Volkswagen T-Cross.

Starting at €27,995 ($31,500), the ID. Cross sits between the T-Cross (€25,280) and Tiguan (€39,385) in price.

Volkswagen has no plans to bring the ID. Cross to the US, but it will launch the ID. Tiguan in early 2027 as the ID.4’s replacement.
