The new Mercedes GLA EV is bigger, smarter, and has a range of over 400 miles

Mercedes-Benz gave its smallest SUV a glow-up. The new electric GLA offers more space for passengers, ultra-fast charging, and a range of over 400 miles.

Meet the new Mercedes-Benz GLA EV

The newly redesigned model is “the most expressive GLA ever,” according to CEO Ola Källenius. It will begin arriving at dealerships in the second half of 2027 with electric and hybrid variants.

Following the CLA and GLB, the new 2028 GLA EV is underpinned by Mercedes’ MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform.

The redesigned GLA is the first compact Mercedes model to feature its new iconic glow grille and optional Intelligent Light System with the brand’s star integrated into the daytime running lights.

With a wheelbase of 109.8″, an increase of 2.4″ over its predecessor, the new GLA offers more space for all passengers. The driver and front passenger gain an additional 0.3″ of legroom, while rear passengers gain even more with an extra up to 1.5″ of legroom.

The streamlined roof design and standard glass panoramic roof help open up an added 0.9″ of headroom for front and rear passengers.

Inside features Mercedes’ new cabin design, including the floating MBUX Superscreen. The setup spans the entire dashboard with a 10.25″ driver display, 14″ central infotainment screen, and 14″ passenger display.

The navigation system is among the first to use Google Cloud’s new Automotive AI Agent for in-vehicle conversational services powered by Google Maps.

Drivers can use the MBUX Virtual Assistant to search for charging stations and view details such as charging speeds.

The 2028 Mercedes GLA EV will be available in two models: the 268-hp 250+ and the all-wheel-drive (AWD) 349-hp 350 4MATIC.

Both models are powered by an 85 kWh battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 408 miles (657 km).

Thanks to its 800-volt technology, the new Mercedes GLA EV can add up to 267 miles (270 km) of range in as little as 10 minutes with DC fast charging of up to 320 kW.

Mercedes has yet to reveal pricing and final specs, but the 2028 GLA EV is expected to start at $45,000 in the US, with an EPA-estimated range of around 350 miles. It will begin arriving at dealerships in the second half of 2027.
