Tesla announces its first Mexican Supercharger in the most subtle, weird, but awesome way

It’s a well-known fact at this point that Tesla has a very unusual way to communicate new information for an automaker. The company shares more news through Elon Musk’s Twitter account than with press releases and this latest instance is a perfect example.

Tesla is expanding to Mexico this year and the automaker is about to establish its Supercharger network of fast-charging stations in the country.

The first Supercharger location was still unknown until now.

Large posters with a QR code went up in the parking lot of the Galerias Cuernavaca shopping center in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos – south of Mexico City.

The QR code on the posters leads to a tweet Musk sent last month:

To remove any doubt that this could be some sort of elaborate prank, we contacted Tesla and the company confirmed it will be the site of its first Supercharger station in Mexico. They simply decided to disclose the location in a subtle but clever way.

Last year Tesla hired former Google communication manager, Ricardo Blanco, to lead Tesla’s communications and marketing in Mexico. The automaker also opened a “pop-up store” and started taking reservations for the Model S and X. A permanent location is expected to soon follow.
